ARDEN MYRIN: What's up, Spaces TV?
This is Arden Myrin.
I'm an actress, comedian, and generally
all-around nosy girl.
Mostly I'm obsessed with interior design.
And today we are in Tompkins Square Park in New York City
in the East Village, and we're gonna see how the people of
the East Village really live, OK?
So I'm going to see if I can get some of these people at
the dog park to take me home.
Cross your fingers.
(GASPING) Look at that dog!
Would you be willing to show us your apartment today?
MALE SPEAKER: I'm sorry, no.
ARDEN MYRIN: I like your dog.
Oh, hello.
Hi, Blue.
Hi, Blue.
Do you live near here?
MALE SPEAKER: Yeah, I've got to go.
I'm sorry.
ARDEN MYRIN: You've got to go?
OK.
He's late.
He's late.
Hi.
Oh my God, hi.
I'm on Spaces TV, and basically I'm a nosy girl.
I'm obsessed with interior design.
So we're trying to just get people to take me home to show
me their real apartment.
Do you guys live near here?
MALE SPEAKER: He does.
PATRICK: Yeah, I do.
I'm a block away.
ARDEN MYRIN: Do you want to hide
anything you want to hide?
PATRICK: Just come over.
ARDEN MYRIN: Yay!
OK!
Oh my god, OK.
So--
MALE SPEAKER: It's train-style, 900 square feet.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god, so you have a big one.
PATRICK: That's what people say.
ARDEN MYRIN: How long have you been there?
Ohhh!
OK, OK.
[ALL LAUGHING]
ARDEN MYRIN: I like your style.
He might be taking me home whether he likes it or not if
you know what I'm saying.
PATRICK: Let's go!
ARDEN MYRIN: OK, we're going to go.
Awesome.
OK.
I'm hear with my new favorite gentleman caller, Patrick.
PATRICK: Hey, Arden.
ARDEN MYRIN: How long have you lived here?
PATRICK: 16 years.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK, I'm going to take a guess.
First of all, I love your whole look.
And what do you do for a living?
PATRICK: Well, I'm a filmmaker and I also
experiment with mixology.
ARDEN MYRIN: I like that, ooh.
I'm going to guess what your apartment looks like, OK?
So it could be way off.
PATRICK: Uh-oh.
ARDEN MYRIN: So I just like to guess.
PATRICK: Take a guess.
ARDEN MYRIN: I'm picturing like a mysterious, like almost
like a world traveler from the 1900s.
PATRICK: Well, that's very sweet of you to say.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK, let's check it out.
PATRICK: Let's travel and see.
ARDEN MYRIN: Here we go.
Has the building changed since you've been in it?
PATRICK: No, it's maintained very well by an owner who
adheres to all the New York City codes and laws.
ARDEN MYRIN: That's very rare.
PATRICK: Yes.
So it smells really nice in here.
Have you noticed?
ARDEN MYRIN: Yes, it smells fantastic.
PATRICK: It smells great.
We're just this way.
Hey!
Welcome to my humble abode.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god, this place is great.
PATRICK: What do you think of that?
ARDEN MYRIN: Wow, you have a real kitchen/bathroom.
PATRICK: A bathtub in the kitchen.
ARDEN MYRIN: You know what?
You could either have it be a full kitchen
or a bathroom suite.
Well, this is very classic of New York apartments.
Railroad apartments oftentimes had bathtubs and stuff in--
it's not the first time I've seen this.
PATRICK: Yeah, yeah.
Well, it's a cold water flat because cold water was added
after the building was built.
ARDEN MYRIN: Awesome.
It's like a game of Tetris in New York, just trying to
figure out how to fit all your stuff.
PATRICK: How to fit all the things together.
ARDEN MYRIN: I have to say that
you're very well organized.
PATRICK: Well, I try.
Thank you.
ARDEN MYRIN: So far, so good.
High five!
Good game.
We're going to take a look at the rest of the apartment.
PATRICK: This is my study.
ARDEN MYRIN: OK.
PATRICK: It's where I produce my motion-picture
extravaganzas.
ARDEN MYRIN: Wow!
This is so great.
This feels like stuff is happening.
The books, and like, this to me must be the adventurer--
you know, I knew I was going to feel like a library.
This is fantastic.
I love your hat collection.
PATRICK: Yes, I love hats.
ARDEN MYRIN: That's a safari.
PATRICK: I know.
I like to wear this on hot days.
It is a hot day, so I might put it on.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god, it's so cute.
I love the one with the feather.
PATRICK: You look cute.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh, I feel so cute.
PATRICK: Oh, you look like Jean Harlow.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my God.
Razzle-dazzle.
A man after my own heart.
Who is that?
PATRICK: Oh, that's my mother, my father, and myself.
ARDEN MYRIN: No way.
PATRICK: In 1966, shortly after I was born.
ARDEN MYRIN: You--oh my God, you come
from, like, rock stars?
PATRICK: Oh, how can you tell?
ARDEN MYRIN: Are they real rock stars?
PATRICK: Yes.
ARDEN MYRIN: Are you really?
Who are your parents?
What was it like growing up with a rock star dad?
PATRICK: Well, it had its challenges.
ARDEN MYRIN: For sure.
PATRICK: But I do remember some very interesting, weird
little moments, and just kind of enriching, but also--
ARDEN MYRIN: Crazy.
PATRICK: Yeah.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh, cool.
What an amazing, specific--
PATRICK: Yeah, it was fun.
ARDEN MYRIN: And I mean, obviously, looking at your
apartment, obviously you come from very artistic people.
This is incredible.
PATRICK: So this is my bedroom.
You can open your eyes now.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh my god, this is awesome!
The first thing I notice is this awesome tiger rug.
PATRICK: Yes, that's from Tibet.
ARDEN MYRIN: It's fantastic.
For those of you who have not been in New York City, one of
the classic styles of apartments in New York is
called a railroad apartment, which means it's basically
like a railroad train and the cars would be attached.
So there's no hallway.
This goes from room to room to room to room.
This is a beautiful bedspread.
Tell me about it.
PATRICK: That's actually Burmese.
It's hand-woven.
ARDEN MYRIN: What era is this?
PATRICK: It's not that old, really.
But he made it look kind of old.
ARDEN MYRIN: There's sort of a vintage
feel of a world traveler.
I was right about that.
PATRICK: Well, again, I've traveled the world in parts,
and wherever I've been, I try to take a little part with me.
ARDEN MYRIN: Is this a vintage sofa?
PATRICK: Yeah. it's probably early '60s.
ARDEN MYRIN: It's great.
Oh, look at this.
Tell me about this.
PATRICK: This is a chair that my mother gave
me when I was 17.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh, Mama Bear.
PATRICK: Or 16.
ARDEN MYRIN: It's fabulous.
PATRICK: And she said to me, you know, you need something
good to sit in to read good books.
ARDEN MYRIN: Absolutely.
PATRICK: And this is my little--
ARDEN MYRIN: I love it, the mixology station.
PATRICK: Liquor center for all kinds of treats.
ARDEN MYRIN: What is your favorite
thing about your space?
PATRICK: I think, actually, that it's open.
The openness of it.
I don't really care a lot about
possessions, to be honest.
But I've acquired-- the things I have mean something to me
because they've either been given to me by someone who's
departed or somebody who's important in my life.
And those things just--
that's why they're there.
PATRICK: Well, you can feel that there's a lot of, like
the history.
You can feel there's a lot of love, and everything's very
specific to you, everything that's in here.
PATRICK: Thank you.
And now you're here.
ARDEN MYRIN: Yay!
PATRICK: And you're very specific to me also.
ARDEN MYRIN: Oh, you're so sweet.
All right.
Well, just as you were the perfect host, Patrick--
and first of all, thank you so much for letting us-- for
taking me home.
PATRICK: Thank you for coming home.
ARDEN MYRIN: Well, I would not be a good house guest if I
didn't a housewarming gift, so--
PATRICK: [GASP]
Oh my goodness.
ARDEN MYRIN: I'm sure this is very fancy.
PATRICK: I'm gonna drink this very soon.
ARDEN MYRIN: I hope you do.
Me too!
PATRICK: As soon as it's chilled.
ARDEN MYRIN: Bye!
Thanks for taking me home, Patrick.
PATRICK: Cheers, everybody.
ARDEN MYRIN: Patrick, would you refill this for me?
Kitty needs another drink.
PATRICK: Oh, yes.
ARDEN MYRIN: You just saw Patrick's apartment on "Take
Me Home." For more, check out Spaces TV.
