Hi this is Burns Hargis, president of Oklahoma State University, and we're here for another edition, in fact the very
first edition of Inside OSU
for the 2011-2012 semesters.
It's a very exciting time here on campus. I want to welcome all of our students and faculty
back to campus after a great and I'm sure hot summer.
I especially want to welcome our new cowgirls and cowboys.
We're thrilled you're here. This is going to be a very exciting year.
This may well be, once all the numbers are in, the largest freshman class
in the history of this university, which was founded in 1890.
So that's pretty impressive and I think it shows what a great experience
and what a great education Oklahoma State University provides.
Well, I happen a have
one of our new cowgirls and one of our new cowboys with me,
and let's chat a little bit and find out their names and how they ended up at Oklahoma State. Hi how are you doing?
I'm good. Your names Jacey isn't it?
Yes Jacey Wallace.
Travis Tinnin.
Now you're a freshman here? Yes.
You found everything okay? Yes. You have all your classes scoped out? Yes. Have you been to class yet?
This is the very first day we're doing this. I started at 8:30 this morning.
And you're from where? Hugo. Down in southeastern Oklahoma, where all the circuses used to winter? Yes.
How did you end up coming to OSU?
I'm studying dietetics and I like OSU's program so I wanted to come for that.
What will you do in dietetics? What's your dream job? I want to work with type 1 diabetics,
so I want to further in dietetic education.
So how about you Travis, where are you from? I'm from Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
And how'd you end up here at OSU?
I've always liked OSU. I came to a golf camp a few years ago when I was younger.
And last year started coming visiting some friends and just fell in love with it. It felt like home.
Have any of you gotten started on any of the organizations here on campus?
A little bit, just fraternity.
Because you know we've got over 400
organizations here on campus that
have a lot to do with how the campus operates.
Like all of our recycling really came from our students.
So did the no smoking on campus.
So I hope you'll get involved and I hope all you other new
cowboys and cowgirls and the rest of the students
will be very involved here on campus.
So are you going to do all this in four years, and graduate?
Yes. Hopefully, that's the plan.
Where are you living? Village HS. How do you like it? I like it. Why'd you pick that?
I actually wanted to be a part of the living learning community and
I got into it and toured it and liked it a whole lot better than traditional dorms.
So you're in one of the living learning communities for people studying things like dietetics? Yes.
And you joined a fraternity? Yes. Beta Theta Pi. And you're living over there?
Yes in the little Beta house.
When do you get to move to the big Beta house?
Let's hope in a year or so.
Well I hope you all have a great year. You going to the football games? Yes. Definitely.
And basketball? Yes.
Alright well have a great start of the year.
Have a great time here at Oklahoma State University and Go Pokes.
