Pentek CEP-10E Coconut Carbon Block Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com.
Today we’re looking at the Pentek CEP-10E. This is an industry standard size cartridge,
approximately 10 inches long by 2 ½ inches in diameter, which means it’s going to fit
into a vast array of industry standard size filter housings, like for example, the popular
Pentek 158642 that you see here. Now, the CEP-10E is a 5 micron, acid washed,
coconut carbon block. Now, the acid washing process does two things. It minimizes the
amount of carbon fines that can escape from the filter. Sometimes you’ve probably installed
a new filter cartridge and you have to run the water for a long time before the tiny
little black particles of carbon stop coming through. Those are carbon fines, just carbon
dust that breaks off of the carbon. The acid washing process reduces the release of those
carbon fines. It also reduces the amount of PH rise caused by the carbon. You see, when
your water goes through the filter, regular carbon causes a slight rise in the PH; well
that can be bad in certain circumstances and so this carbon filter will not do that because
of the acid washing process. Also, coconut carbon is known to be superior to bituminous
carbon, both in terms of contaminant removal and in the taste of the finished product.
It just makes for really good drinking water. Now, in order to extend filter life, Pentek
has wrapped the entire cartridge in this white outer wrap that they call Endurawrap. It’s
a polyolefin bi-laminate that simply captures sediment, not allowing it to clog the filter
before the carbon is truly exhausted. Filter life is approximately 5,000 gallons
for chlorine taste and odor reduction. Again, this is the Pentek CEP-10E, a 5 micron,
acid washed coconut carbon filter. I’m your host Aquaman with FilterDoctor.com.
Thanks for watching.
