We're here at the Burlingame Parks & Rec Center and it's
a Thursday morning, just brimming with activity.
Right now we're at the Advanced Watercolor class.
And there's a wide array of activities and classes going on
every day, anywhere from 5 to 15 classes
through the swimming pool, the baseball field,
soccer fields, art classes, yoga classes.
We like to say that we offer programs for kids
of all ages here.
So anything from preschool classes--so we have
preschool art classes, preschool music, dance.
We offer activities for middle school kids
in terms of afterschool sports.
There are people who benefit by just the events
that we have, the outreach that we have.
We have senior activities.
We just had a flu shot service, where people could come in
and get flu shots for $5, which was a great deal, discounted.
I think almost everyone in the community benefits one way
or another: rooms for rent for parties and things like that,
for meetings, we've had town hall meetings here, we've had
special events people who have had their school dances here.
This is where you bring the young kids, there's classes for
them and you can make friends.
And sure enough, we've been coming for the last seven years;
the older kids grew up the younger kid has now come in.
This is kind of, really, our second home, because we actually
do spend a lot of time at the rec center.
Before children are six, it's really important to get any kind
of music--language, too, but music is really important
to get before a certain age.
And at six, you can really take it in and then soak it up.
And even if you forget it, you can come back to it later in
life and you'll be able to pick it up.
The classes are very reasonably priced.
It's a great experience because there are great people, you meet
other people in the community that you might not otherwise
intersect with in your life.
And the affordability is just so great compared to some of the
private programs, and even compared to some
of the community colleges.
It's convenient, it's accessible,
and it's very reasonable.
You don't see many towns that are like this anymore, where
it's just--it's old-fashioned, it's good, hometown feeling.
The people rally around things for the community, they come to
our events, they're supportive of what we do here,
and of the schools and everything in the community.
And of course the houses are beautiful,
the weather is perfect.
I mean, what more could you ask for?
