My name is *** Plischeck
I work as a fire commander
of the district Böblingen in Baden-Württemberg.
XVR is used in the district
Böblingen on several levels.
In today’s XVR training
we are having a commander training .
I am the exercise leader for today and guide
the students through the scenarios.
We start on the lowest commanding level
and consequently raise the level to Commissioning Officer.
The Commissioning Officer clearly needs to be able to do more as a commander.
After this, the Head Commissioning Officer level is addressed.
The Head Commissioning Officers are according to
the fire brigade law in Baden-Württemberg
the ones who, at a large incident,
are in charge in their municipality. That is why
they
have more complex scenarios, which we create with XVR.
They begin with one hour theory lessons in the morning at eight o’clock.
Then four groups are assembled.
After that, trainings always take place
In the groups
with the Joystick.
In which a trainer always assists a student.
It is a one on none training.
The district Böblingen is the first district in Baden-Württemberg and in the whole of
Germany,
that as a district with voluntary fire fighters,
participates in such a project, in which the training on district level
with the virtual reality of XVR
has been formed.
In the role of
exercise leaders, we guide the students.
We need to place ourselves in different roles we
create in the scenarios.
We act as bystanders, wounded people,
we are the police, basically we are everyone,
as to create a certain realistic nature.
Hello, what is going on? Are you able to say something?
We have the advantage that
we do not have a bird’s eye view
As with the so called scale model training
in which I can assess the situation in an instant
and see how it ends as a whole, what I need to focus on.
Now, however, I have an entire 3D World and first person view available to me.
Where I actually have to walk around a building.
I have to go in to a house to investigate the situation. That is
thought out for me, I have the most important information available to me.
I think
for starters, to get in to the situation, that is interesting.
In how far you have to bring that further, that needs to prove itself, I think.
On the face of it, it makes a good impression.
I think people can apply it very well.
The way the game develops is good, that
pleased me.
People are looking at a small screen.
Things get much better on a bigger screen.
I came driving from a reasonable distance.
I’ve only seen a bit of a commotion.
I got out of the car and walked around left and right.
And luckily saw that someone was lying on top of the bridge.
These are the details. From this basis you can get good indications on what you need to focus on.
Where is the danger, rail track with overhead wire.
That people don’t get to work immediately during the extinguishing, etc.
The experience with the programme today,
of course it was the first lesson, was very positive.
It truly gives the possibility
to imagine your inset in situations
and also a possible working method
to practice during the inset,
what I come across during exploring, et cetera,
everything is displayed clearly
and also for trainings goals, very appropriate, I have to say. Everything is easy
to use.
The programme is easy to understand and practical for everyone.
And on the other hand it is truly possible to
create scenarios which are not easy to create during live trainings outside.
We have few people available,
live trainings cost a lot. I use
a lot of personnel. I also, of course have the advantage
that I’m inside.
It is a nice addition.
Creating realistic exercises, my approach ,
all the techniques I need to be familiar with,
I need to make transparent,
so I can offer the student
an almost realistic situation in a simple way without having to make high costs.
Has there been an improvement after the implementation of XVR?
In comparison with before?
And that is
considerable.
It is a big success,
We truly, and I emphasise this, did not hear a single
complaint.
We have been working in this district for two years
on a large scale
with this software
and we have already trained 300 to 400 firefighters
with this application. It is not difficult to work with this software,
nor is it difficult to
analyse the learning content
and to know what I can translate of the learning content
in to the software so it is displayed properly.
The software is not only applicable to tactical issues.
For example, you can apply XVR
to solve certain legal questions.
The cooperation with E-Semble is very good and above all
very helpful. It was an important criterion for us
that there would be German support
which would almost
be available for the entire day, at least during office hours.
We can always contact someone personally.
During the years,
a very good and personal cooperation has been established.
And that distinguishes E-Semble, in my opinion, from the many
other companies. It is a
very easy-going collaboration.
And many issues and agreements
do not have to be written, there is a lot
possible.
That makes the cooperation easier.
That is the genius thing about the system
That we see the situation one –on-one
and seeing the effect of your measures in a situation one-on-one directly is not possible in the scale model training.
It is not possible in a scale model or a large scale live training. That is why this computer simulation is so uniquely good.
