The editors for the daily
TV news have to edit new media productions several times a day
in a very short time. For this task they want to re-use
Media Fragments such as text, pictures,
video snippets from available archives.
One main challenge for the editor
is the retrieval of fragments relevant to the current working
focus. Therefore Condat offers the SmartSearch
based on the Condat Smart Media Engine, which is demonstrated in the
following.
Lets start by looking at the Smart Search module.
Imagine this scenario: An editor is working on an article.
She uses the SmartSearch to find suitable Media
Fragments for her new media production. The news editor
opens the application to retrieve Media fragments related to the current working
focus. The editor types the topic
for the production into the search bar on the left side.
For instance about renewable energy. A specific production is opened,
by selecting one of the listed media items. On the right appears
a short description for the new media production.
The left column shows the most relevant tags of the video news
description. Then, the editor can retrieve the Media Fragments most related to the
focussed subject
from archives.
The recommender function returns a ranked list of video fragments
concerning this subject.
The best ranked video comes first.
See the ranking value
in blue.
Let us take a brief look at the video player. It displays the Media Fragments
with begin and end time in the status bar. They are also indicated in this area
of the slider bar.
Furthermore a thumbnail displays the first
image of the fragment. You play the video fragment, by clicking on the play button.
I would argue that
we need to focus on the fact that hydro power
needs to be an important part of this entire discussion.
On the right
the meta data of the Media Fragment are displayed.
These are for instance the relevance value,
also known as the ranking value, the fragment times,
the description and
the matching keywords. Moreover
the information about the parent video is shown.
The relevance of the Media Fragments
is mainly assessed by matching keywords of the fragment description
and the matching keywords of the opened news production description.
Which are listed in the tag area. The algorithm does not only
consider identical keywords, but also semantically related
expressions.The keywords,
which caused the ranking of the Media Fragment are marked
yellow. In addition, keywords of the same shot
and adjacent sentences of the same speaker
may influence the relevance.
Finally the editor can select suitable Media Fragments
to integrate them into her news room
tool. There she can possibly edit them
and finally create a new media production.
Now you have an idea of the features
offered by the SmartSearch module. For more information
