Good morning! It is Monday, April 18, the start of Week 15 in the course. There are
a number of important updates to be aware of this week.
First, the content of this week is unusual. There are no video lectures. I know, disappointing.
Instead, there is a full-length documentary to watch about health care that touches on
several issues relevant to the class. The documentary is called Escape Fire and it is
really well done, I think you will enjoy it. Unfortunately, I don’t have any way to show
it to you for free so you are going to have to rent or buy it to watch. Streaming rentals
are as little as three dollars, so it isn’t too bad. There are notes pages posted to help
you take notes on the documentary.
Second, exam 4 grades are posted and should be viewable in the grade book on D2L. Let
me know if you have any questions. Overall, the performance on the exam was very good
with an average grade of 85%, a solid B. Just a reminder that our “final” exam is Exam
5 and it is scheduled for one week from Friday. That is the last exam for the course. Make
sure and have that exam on your calendar.
Third, we have our final assignment due this week. Instructions are available on D2L. Several
students have already posted very thoughtful reviews to the discussion board for the assignment.
Fourth and finally, several students have asked about SONA research participation grades
in the grade book. I probably won’t post those to the grade book until the SONA deadline
for students to assign credits to classes on Tuesday, May 3. If you can see the credits
in SONA and you have assigned them to this class, you can trust that they will be added
to the grade book and included in your grade. You will have a few days to review your final
grade calculation in D2L before it is posted so you will have a chance to double-check.
One thing I would caution you about…we’ve had some students in recent semesters who
assign SONA credits to a class and then switch that assignment to a different class after
the instructor posts the credits to the class gradebook. This is called “double dipping”
and we consider it to be a violation of academic integrity. Please don’t do this and discourage
any classmates who you hear might be thinking of doing that.
I think that is it for now. Stay dry this week and enjoy the documentary. Have a great
week.
