Hi everyone, welcome to Photosho Pro Help and today im going to be teaching you this awesome text effect
now the effect that i am going to be showing you has been made by someone else
a couple of years ago
now one of you guys has asked me to update the this and put it into better-quality
so here is the effect that you are going to be getting
now this is the original picture of how it was filmed with angelina jolie
the original look of it
now this picture you can really
experiment with all different kinds of pictures
it works with a lot of things
now i would say works best with self-portraits on a white background
now you can cut things out of images and put them onto white backgrounds it works just
as well
so if i go over to this one here, this one i cut out and put on to a white background
still works just as fine as the original
so once you have loaded
your image that you want to apply this effect to in to Photoshop then we can start work
this is the original image here
if you do just want to follow me
you can download this image off my website, the link is going to be in the
description bar for you to download
so first things first is we are going to go and unlock this image here, so
as you can see the little padlock on the right hand side
we are just going to double click that layer
and you will get this NEW LAYER box come up, click OK
so that takes the padlock out of it so we can edit it
now from here all we are going to do is going to select the shadows, so we go up to SELECT
and then COLOUR RANGE
and we are going to go to
the colour range select
go down
and click shadows
now you want to make sure the you've got the selection clicked on and then click OK
now all we are going to do now is a few commands on the keyboard so press CTRL and C
and thats going to copy it, and then press CTRL and J and thats going to paste it on to a new layer for us
now we are going to go back to layer zero
and we are going to go up to SELECT and we are going to slect the mid tones now so go down to COLOUR RANGE again
and then go to COLOUR RANGE SELECT
then go to mid tones
make sure you have the selection click on and then click OK
and from here we are going to go
and press CTRL + C
and then press CTRL + J again
and as you can see it has put it on to a new layer for us
and that has got the mid tones, now we are going to hide layer zero now
and you want to make sure you have layer 2 selected
and we are going to fill this with 50% grey so go up to EDIT
and then go to FILL
and you want to go to FILL CONTENTS USE drop down menue
go to 50% grey and make sure you have PRESERVE TRANSPARENCY clicked on
and then click OK
and we are going to go up to layer 1
and we are going to go back up to EDIT and then down to FILL
and then go to the drop down menue again, go to black
make sure you have PRESERVE TRANSPARENCY clicked on again
and then click OK
now once you have done this
what we are going to do is select layer 1 and layer 2
and we are going to merge them togeather, so hold down CTRL on your keyboard
and select layer 2
and then layer 1
and then right click
and press merge layers
now as you can see it has merged in to layer 1
now all we are going to do from here
is we are going to get the brush
that we are going to be using
so we need some text for this
you can have any text that you want you can create anything you want
you can copy text off a website
if need be
so all we are going to do now is go and make a NEW BLANK DOCUMENT but it has to be the same size as the
picture your working with
so this picture here
we are going to go find out the size so go to IMAGE
then IMAGE SIZE
now here is the
width and the height that we need for the new blank document
so you want a copy and paste these on to it
so i have already done that, so we go to FILE then NEW
and my sizes have already come up but you want to put your sizes here
and then click OK
now from here we want to go and select the TEXT ICON which is
on left hand side, click that
and we are just going to go and click in the middle here
where we need it
now you can have any font that you want, I've gone for LUCIDA CALLIGRAPHY
now you want to change the size, now depending on the size of you image that you are working with
it can go up and down so you *** to experiment with the sizes
so i have gone for 36 for this and that should be fine
and im just going to go and copy
this paragraph here
it's just a poem that i found off a website but you can really have anything
you can have a poem or you can
make your own
depending on what you want it to be about
so we are just going to go and press
CTRL + V
to paste
and change that
to black, you want to make sure that
the colour is set to black
for this
and the size is a little bit to big so we are just going to drop down the size, just there
so around about that will do for me
just drop it down to around about 24
lets go for 29, that should be ok
there we go
now once you have something like that, all we are going to do now
is go up to the rectangle marquee tool on the left hand side
and select the text
and then we are going to go up to EDIT and then down to DEFINE BRUSH PRESET
and all this is going to do is make the text in to a brush so we can use it
so you want to name your brush anything you want
and then click OK
now i dont need to do that as i have already done mine
now we are going to go back to the picture we was working with
now you want to make 2 blank layers, so we are going to go down to the bottom right hand side
and click the NEW BLANK LAYER icon twice
now it's going to put in layer 2 and layer 3, you want to go select layer 2 and fill that with white
so go to the paint bucket tool or EDIT then FILL
and then we are just going to hide that
and then from here all we are going to do is go to layer 1
and we are going to do a few commands on the keyboard again, so press CTRL + A
and that will select the whole of the image and then press CTRL + C
and what that will do is it will copy it
so we are going to go back up to layer 3 now
and what we are going to do
is we are going to get our text
which we are going to go to the PIANT BRUSH TOOL
and then we are going to go up to the top
and then go to the drop down menue and select our text that we made
now as i said you will really need to work with the size
so it really depends on what you need, so you can bring down the brush size
you want to change the brush size everytime
so you want to go for a
black for the colour
and then we are just going to go along painting
changing up the size every so often like that
and once you have done that
all we are going to do now
is we are going to put a masking layer on to layer 3 so you want to go to the bottom right hand side
and go to this
little button here that looks like a camera, click that
and then hold down ALT on the keyboard
and then click the new masking layer
so we make sure that we are working on that layer
so once you have got this
we are going to press CTRL + V
and what that does is it
pastes what we have just copyed which is the original image
so we need to go and press
CTRL + D to deselect
and then press CTRL + I to invert that
now once you have done that we are going to go back to layer 3
and all we are going to do now
is we are just going to
is hide layer 1
and as you can see we have all the text here
now it not very bright so we are going to turn on layer 2
and that makes it a lot more pungent
so all we are going to do now is apply a few layer styles, so we are going to double click layer 3
and that brings up the layer styles box
and we are going to go down to the the gradient overlay
and you want to put the blend mode to SCREEN
and then you want to go and change the gradient editor
so i am going to go for this one here, the blue, red and the yellow, thats a preset
and then go and click OK
and then click OK again
now her face is'nt really coming through soo all we are going to do now is
go over to the PAINT BRUSH TOOL, go up to the top
drop down menu
and we are going to go and select a soft brush
so this one here
and we are just going to scale the brush down
to around about there
200 will do probably
i am going to go for 125
and you want to make sure you have black selected
you want to bring the opacity
at the top down to 33%
and all we are going to do is click and paint
to bring some of her details through
so just her jaw line down here
like that
and her hair, like that
and then just her lips and a bit of her nose
and there we have it
thats our image created, how easy was that
now that you have a stylish image, you can really work with this and make it your own
and put your own effects on to it
