A large granite slab was found at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean by Japanese researchers. They beleive that it can be part of the continent, which once existed near the coast of Brazil and called Atlantis. The team, led by the Japanese Agency of science and technology in the study of marine mineral resources has found a stone ledge 10X10 meters at a depth of about one kilometer. The discovery was made using the bathyscaphe in 1200 km from Rio De Janeiro. Usually granite found on land. Researchers believe that it's high consistence on the bottom of the ocean shows that sometime in the very far past, this area was dry land, and later sank into the water. Near the granite slab was found a large amount of quartz sand, which is formed only on land. The team didn't take any samples for analysis yet. According to scientists, further research will be conducted by their Brazilian colleagues. At the moment, the Japanese Agency explores the deepest part of the ocean to detect new unknown life forms. First time the legend about Atlantis was mentioned by Plato. He referring to some legends, calls time and place of flooding the continent - approximately 9500 year BC in the Atlantic ocean. As considered, the flooding happened very quickly in an earthquake or a big flood. However, not everybody support this theory. Some scientists believe that Atlantis could exist in other oceans. While others believe that the story of the continent is fiction. Now it all for Brazilian scientists. They must confirm or refute the ancient legend.
