This guide will show you how to reference a book using the Chicago Style.
The details for citing a book section is generally found on the cover, details page and contents page of the book.
Important details include the Title of the book, Author of Book, Title of the section, page range, published year, and the publishing details.
Once you have gathered this information you will need to format it in a specific way.
Author.
Family name with only the first letter capitalised...
...comma, first name with the first letter capitalised, full stop.
When you have more than one author, you need to include all of the names.
This is an example for three authors.

Book section title.
Where available, you need to include the name of the chapter or section.
If the author of the section is different to the author of the book, you will need to use the edited book format for the citation.
State the title of the book section, followed by a full stop.
The title of the section is presented in inverted double quotes.
Use capital letters for the first letter of each of the major words in the title.
We use the word 'In' to show that the previous information is within the following book.
Book title - This is the title of the Book
Book title is formatted using italics, followed by a comma.
Use capitals for the start of all the major words in the title and subtitle.
A colon is used to separate title and subtitle details.
Page numbers.
Note the start page and shortened end page, separated by a dash, followed by a full stop.
Place of publication.
Only use one place, even if more are shown.
Use the name of the city and town, a comma, then the name of the state or the country.
We use a colon to separate the place name and the publisher details.
Publisher.
You need to identify who produced the book, followed by a comma.
Date - is formatted using the year, then a full stop.
Only use the year of the most current edition, not the reprint year.
