Hi, I’m Janae and welcome to Café Janae.
This is a place where you can learn how to get healthy
and have fun while you’re doing it.
Were going to do today, to make some ice cream
that is made of whole foods and doesn’t have the garbage in it
that you have in your normal ice cream.
Were going to make ice cream with out high fructose corn syrup,
without sugar, without chemicals, additives, artificial flavors,
artificial colors, its going to be all natural
and its going to be good for you,
the nutrient density in this ice cream
are higher than most peoples meals.
One of the things that people tell me when I tell them
you need to start eating healthier is that I can’t give up ice cream,
I need ice cream, I’m going to die.
So, were going to learn
how to make a healthy delicious chocolate coconut ice cream today
that will make you forget that you are on diet,
make you forget that your eating healthy
and you’ll just be able to indulge in this
and the bonus is all the ingredients were using are whole foods
and super foods,
so that you’re getting very nutrient dense food
and a lot of times this dessert
are healthier than the most meals you eat during the day.
So let’s start up,
first of all what were going to do is take 2 cans of coconut milk,
and were going to use, were going to use a Vita mix stuff,
if you want to eat healthy and you don’t have a vita mix,
you really might want to consider getting a vita mix,
cant live with out them.
2 cans of coconut milk, into the blender,
then were going to take 3 quarters cup of a natural sweetener;
you can use honey, agave, a little bit stevia,
theirs a lot natural sweetener you can use,
I’m using honey right now.
If you use honey it’s going to give it a honey flavor,
if you want more a natural flavor you can use agave.
And then 3 quarters cup of cocoa powder,
I use raw cocoa powder,
when you use raw cocoa powder it’s got all the vitamins,
minerals, nutrients that are still in the cocoa.
Once it’s processed, it’s been alkalized,
and once it’s been heat treated, it’s not as good for you anymore.
So, if you really making a truly healthy dessert
you need to use raw cocoa powder.
Then we’ve got 1 tbsp of vanilla, 3 quarters tsp salt
and let see,1 quarter cup of coconut oil,
now coconut oil is awesome because,
its got a lot of your healthy fats in it,
its really great for helping with digestion
and it helps your skin to become smoother,
its got lot in it, lots of vitamins and minerals,
and that’s it,
could ice cream get really easier,
we’re going to put the lid on here and then blend.
Did you know that most people can’t digest milk,
a lot of people have symptoms of stomachaches,
headaches, sinus problems
and turns out that they can’t digest lactose
and they can’t digest dairy,
so this ice cream is amazing because it’s dairy free
and its good for people in lactose intolerance
and its got a very high nutrition density.
Now, using natural sweeteners you can also don’t have all
the detrimental effects of the ingredients in the normal ice cream,
high fructose corn syrup, sugar, chemicals, pillars, preservatives,
none a lot in here, all we’ve got is whole foods.
So what were going to do is put this in ice cream maker,
I love this Cuisinart ice cream maker,
its great, just take this little canister, you put this in a freezer
and then as you freeze your ice cream you don’t need ice,
you don’t need salt, it doesn’t make a mess, it’s awesome,
so put the canister together, turn the ice cream maker on,
then put the ice cream.
Okay, here we are, prepare your self for delicious,
the ice cream has just come out in the freezer,
its been freezing for about 30 minutes, and right now,
it’s the consistency of softer, so its really soft,
so if you want harder like the traditional ice cream that you get
it in the store just keep in the freezer for an hour or two,
just scoop up nice and solid.
So, here we go this non dairy ice cream,
were just going to serve it in a bowl,
then again, were going to focus on how it looks.
Chocolate ice cream is going to be delicious
no matter what you did to it,
but the more you can do to enhance the visual effect
of the chocolate ice cream the better.
Now, hmm that’s good.
So the chocolate ice cream is brown
so were choosing a light colored bowl,
you can use the contrast of the white
and the brown first of all
and that just makes look great doing that but then
if you add a bright color into it like red for instance
that even brings out the contrast even more,
so were going to add some fresh strawberries
that has been chopped, that’s going to add flavor contrast
and its also going to add color contrast, isn’t it beautiful?
Got the white bowl, the brown ice cream,
the red berries and the chocolate ice cream is going to be creamy,
the berry in it going to be a tart and sweet,
and so the flavor contrast is going to be really amazing as well,
then were going to top it up with a little shredded coconut,
the white on top of red and brown looks great
and plus the coconut in the ice cream is going to complement
the coconut of top and their you go…
looks beautiful, it taste amazing
and we’ve got non dairy ice cream
that full of lots of vitamins and minerals,
nutritious very good for you
and you can eat it with no guilt
and your going to feel good after you eat it.
