Hi I'm Mark Davis with BigWater Adventures and I want to talk to you about the PENN Spinfisher
V. It's a new reel that they're going to come out with for two thousand and thirteen. There's
some changes that they've made to it, which is why you ask yourself: it's not a new reel.
Yes it is. It's still the same historically rugged and tough, durable, PENN Spinfisher
that hardcore PENN users and hardcore anglers all around the world have come to know and
love. They've made some changes for two thousand and thirteen that you really ought to pay
attention to because it is important, and it's going to put a spinning reel in one specific
instance into some fisheries and into some applications that traditionally they have
not been. More on that in just a minute. Lets start with the body. They start out with an
all-metal body. To me that's one of the most important things out there. Its not going
to torque, it's not going to break. I don't have to worry about the frame itself and the
kind of abuse that I'm going to pu on it. Next thing: None of that matters if you can't
put enough drag on the fish to turn them and stop them. They've incorperated the Slammer
Drag System. Which, if you're unfamiliar with that, essentially what it is: on the top of
the reel, typically speaking, a drag system is going to be smaller in diameter because
the top of the reel is going to be smaller in diameter. If you pop this spool off of
here, up against the bottom which is much bigger in diameter, that is where the drag
system goes into place. What that means in Lehman's terms is that you've got twice the
surface area of drag, twice the diameter of drag, and in this case, twice the max pounds
of pressure almost to the reel. This reel is available from a thirty five hundred up
to a ten thousand, five hundred. Now thats one of the really cool important things I
was talking about. Those of you that know the nine fifty SS, a ten thousand five hundred
spinning reel in years past, almost impossible to do. Reason: because of torque and the amount
of pressure you can put on them. Can you stop and think for a second what a ten thousand
five hundred with the max drag capacity that it has, an all metal frame, and the ability
to put the heat with that Slammer Drag System, you're going to be able to take one hundred
pound braided line and turn big giant mean nasties and groundfish. You're going to be
able to do the bluefin with it. Theres all kinds of things that you're going to be able
to do with this reel. To top the whole thing off, they've made this thing almost water...
they don't want to say water proof. I'd say its about as close as you can get. The water
resistance, everything in here, the sealed bearings, and everything up underneath the
spool. If it's got a red o-ring, thats one of the places it's sealed. They did that to
show you what they've actually accomplished in turn of making this one of the most water
resistant reels of all time, any model, any brand, anywhere. The new PENN Spinfisher V
series from a thirty five hundred all the way up to a ten thousand five hundred is literally
going to handle an unbelievable amount of species where I go from Alaska to Panama,
to Prince Edward Island, to the Bahamas, all over the Gulf of Mexico. I'm going to see
what I can put on these. You need to pick one up at the store and do the same thing.
