We're in Switzerland for the 2014 Geneva Motor Show
and we have an exciting glimpse
into the not-so-far away future
with the Toyota FCV Concept
Seen for the first time in Europe
the new fuel cell powered concept showcases
what Toyota plans to commercialise in 2015
The upcoming sedan-type fuel cell vehicle
is poised to become a pioneer in hydrogen-powered vehicles
So, what are hydrogen fuel cell vehicles?
For Toyota, fuel cell is the closest
technology to the ultimate zero-emissions eco-car
Emitting only water
fuel cell vehicles have the potential to solve
a number of energy and emissions concerns in the world today
Toyota's current fuel cell technology
is already a leading player
achieving the world's highest power output density of three kilowatts per litre
The FCV concept has more than one hundred kilowatts of power
at its disposal and can reach a maximum speed
of one hundred and seventy kilometres per hour
With the full-scale launch just over the horizon
Toyota is also working to reduce total fuel cell system cost
which in turn, reduces the retail price
Owning a fuel cell vehicle
will be much like owning a conventionally-powered vehicle
Hydrogen refuelling time is just three minutes
and the cruising range is more than five hundred kilometres
Like all Toyota vehicles
the FCV concept has already gone through
extensive testing to ensure safety and reliability
With pronounced air intakes in the front
sleek, flowing, fluid motion design lines on the side
and the catamaran-inspired rear
the FCV concept is designed to evoke
the two key characteristics of fuel cell vehicles
it emits only water
and the acceleration produced by the electric motors
is powerful
