Blade Runner 2049 writers discuss what the 'right' version of the original movie is
Whether Deckard is a replicant or not isnt the only question Blade Runner fans want answered.
Blade Runner 2049 writers Michael Green and Hampton Fancher – the latter of whom co-wrote the original movie – have discussed what the right version of Ridley Scotts classic is to watch before seeing the sequel.
And anyone hoping for a definitive answer will be disappointed as Green discussed what version Blade Runner 2049 is a sequel to.
You get to fanboy out amongst everyone else working on the film, learn what their favourite version is and why, he told Gizmodo. I got to ask Ridley Scott that. I got to ask Denis [Villeneuve] that.
I got to argue with Denis about that – and he respects opinions, because theres no right or wrong.
People ask often, Which version should I watch if I havent seen it? I say the easiest answer is, Whichever you can watch tonight..
Green added that each version of Blade Runner is interesting in their own right and no-one should watch any version and think its not correct.
Fancher noted that when it came to approaching the sequel, he wasnt concerned how fans would react and he was only bothered about impressing one person: Ridley Scott.
I knew he was a fan, and I was a fan of his. I was writing for Ridley. Or I would realise after the fact that I was doing that. Although we would need to discuss it.
But yeah, I wanted him to be the sympathetic ear I got, he recalled.
Blade Runner 2049 has been hailed as a masterpiece in the first reactions from critics, although well have to wait and see if it confirms if Deckard is a replicant or not.
Harrison Ford thinks he knows the right answer and apparently, he and Scott have resolved their arguments about the matter, but neither of them is telling us if the sequel settles the debate.
Blade Runner 2049 arrives in UK cinemas on October 5 and US cinemas on October 6.
