"Hello dear Seriasten. We are here live from the first X-CON in Berlin, Germany.
This is first X-Files convention ever on German soil.
You can now see who attended and what was shown here:
He was the star of this years' X-CON: X-Files & Lone Gunmen actor Dean Haglund.
Some fans even travelled from South Africa to see him.
"I'm representing the actors and I'm very close with the fans. A lot of these I know online, they come to many of my other...
...many shows in England and in the US. So I keep very close contact with my fans through e-mail and Facebook.
They listen to our podcast and that sort of thing."
The X-CON 2009 shows: Not only the Truth is still out there, but so are the fans.
The feeling of community among the X-Philes shows no sign of slowing down-
despite the fact that the show has been off the air for 7 years.
"It seems stronger now [compared to] when it was on. There were a lots of fans that just kind of blurred the hard core.
This group. It was hard to determine who'd stay long and who'd be there 7 years later.
So you have now distilled it to the very core of fans."
120 of the so-called X-Philes gathered at the convention to see their star...
...very close-up. But primarily to meet other Philes,...
...attend fan art and role play contest and to chat...
about the uncanny files of FBI agents Mulder and Scully.
"I believe an important factor is the concept of 'belief', which is also...
...shown in the tv show as well and 'don't give up.'
...Keep believing...I think it's a tv show which shapes people's life.
I started watching the show when I was a teen, at 14. It has influenced my life a lot.
This is nothing I could put aside and say that this was just a phase.
This is something which will accompany me my whole life.
The fandom will always be a part of me. And this will be the case...
...for most of the fans."
The strong fan community influenced the fate of the show since the beginning in 1993.
"They just kept bringing us back because of the fans. There was an early internet news group called...
...alt.tv.xfiles. That group said 'Oh look, the Lone Gunmen represent our online community.'
So every time they wanted to boost interest on the show online, they bring the...
...Lone Gunmen on. And we would actually say line about what they were talking on the newsgroup.
So we were sort of reflecting the online fan community."
The X-CON is organised by fans for fans.
A year's worth of hard work was put into the two-day event.
But it paid off for the organising team.
"When I hear from the feedback I received that people are having fun,
then I'm very glad because this was my goal.
That they celebrate what they love the most: 'The X-Files'."
And 'The X-Files' are loved by everyone on this weekend.
Especially by Dean Haglund. Known not only from X-Files but also...
...from it's short-living spin-off 'The Lone Gunmen'. He does not mind at all that ...
...most X-Files fans still consider him 'Langly'. Quite on the contrary.
He wishes that the fans never stop to associate him with the role.
"I hope they don't because it was such a joy to do there are other roles and stuff. But there was...
...so much fun doing 'The X-Files' and doing Langly. I don't mind if I always get called back to conventions...
...like this and that sort of thing. I don't think that would be a harmful thing at all."
'The X-Files' is by all means is much more than a cult tv show - it's a pop culture phenomenon.
Somebody who should know this is German author Kai Krick,
who has written 7 books about the series in the 90s. He shared his experiences in a panel.
"This was rather easy for me. I've talked about being a fan who made a living...
...out of his hobby. I've spent the 1990s watching my favourite show...
...and writing books about that on my computer and was paid very well.
I've talked about that time which I remember fondly.
The listeners thought it was fascinating that...
...somebody managed to make a living with something they...
...spend a lot of time and money on. Maybe I could inspire somebody to...
...do something like this themselves. The lecture went very well, but that is no surprise...
...considering the great audience here."
Nastja Hansen is part of the programme. For the international guests she is giving...
...her lecture in English: 'The Truth is not out there: Post-modern concepts of deconstruction and uncertainty'...
...This is a great opportunity for the fans to delve into the cult show even scientifically.
"What I especially like about the show is it's diversity. It's really complex."
For the attendants it's clear: The first X-CON is a complete success.
"The special thing here is that the stars are at your fingertips."
"It's the first time that there is a fan gathering of this size in Germany....
and that it's organised by fans for fans." "I especially like that I finally have the...
...opportunity to meet other fans. In my circle of friends I'm the only one who is watching the show.
The X-CON is also very versatile."
"'I seem to be the only rooster in the yard out of 110 visitors there're only 8 or 9 males."
"It's a feeling of a group, everybody loves 'The X-Files', so everybody is smart. It's special."
But fun wasn't the only goal of this convention. The event also served a good cause.
"All money after cost recovery will be donated to charity. A rep of...
...German Neurofibromatis Association will attend tomorrow to receive a...
...cheque. Gillian Anderson's brother is suffering from this disease and she is doing...
...work for the for the US-American counterpart, NF, Inc. We have some other events as well.
We raised some money for an African school with the help our fan base, xfiles-mania.de last year.
There are several charity activities where people can buy buttons and such."
All the revenues will be donated to different charities."
A total of 600 Euro was raised during the convention. Let's hope that the X-CON...
...will be looking for The Truth again next year. We want to believe!
"Small but important, that is my conclusion of the first X-CON here in Berlin....
...A wonderful programme for the fans...
...Superstar Dean Haglund was here to perform a hilarious improv show,...
...He signed autographes. Everything matched up nicely...
...We can be curious at to how this convention will develop in the future."
...See you on the next show."
{Serveral fans are whistling and humming the X-Files Theme}
"Hi, I'm Dean Haglund from 'The X-Files' and you are watching seriasten.tv"
