New Power Meter for Cycling by Pioneer at Cycling Strong

Hey Bart Miller her with Cycling strong we're here interbike 2013 and I'm with Russ from Pioneer and he's gonna tell us about the new power meter that they have out I'm really intrigued to find out right now all you know I'm riding the cork power meter absolutely love it so I've got some questions but I'm gonna let Russ take it away tell us a little bit about why pioneer got into this space and what they've done unique so traditionally we sell car stereo, home stereo, pro DJ equipment, televisions but way down deep inside of our R&D lab there's some pretty fanatical cyclists in in our engineering staff now we have a lot in house technology for you know proper transmission of data yeah data capture, GPS all that kind off technology and they put together a system based on a dual power dual leg power meter. so we have two strain gauges one on each crank arm transmitter the talks to a cycle computer head unit (any head unit or just your head unit) so we have a head unit that gives you unique view of your power and you're pedaling stroke but it also is an implulsable work with any other head unit that has an impulse alright so we have four specter displays that are built into our head unit which gives you your pedaling technique shows you where you're applying power and where you on the loss of power in your pedaling stroke so twelve different positions around your peddling stroke workout capturing on power data and we're showing up for your left and in for your right we're really unique graphic so you don't have to be at home looking at you know your your PC application you upload all your data to you can actually look on your bike while you're riding in seeing your pedaling technique awesome!! and can you do that on certain segments like let's say for instance I'm riding a Hill section and i want to see how my pedaling technique is on that can I do it live? you do it live while you're riding on any part of your a ride okay and when i come back can I compare that? when you go to your home we give you a free software it's called cycle sphere you upload your data you can actually look at your course and look at every portion of your course and see all of your different metrics we capture 199 different metrics from the cycling computer you can actually re-live and look at all of your data anywhere on that ride awesome!! left-right crank how easy is it to upload your products and your information like Training Peaks and all the software that most has been using for quite some time so this is a brand new system we launched last week will take it national after this show we currently have a plugin already finished for strava okay and watt training peaks done by November is that right? yes That's pretty exciting I mean I know Training Peaks obviously Alan Hunter has done an amazing job in power world and you know so I use their software and love it so It's really been good so is there anything else unique about this that you want to kinda talk about to our audience or where they can get the product a few things like that so two things you know power and power meters are really popular right now we're engineering company a technology company bring this new product to the market place we use strain gauge based power meters and not accelerometer so therefore left and right crank arm so to do leg and I think that's the key we are very accurate pick up of data and in we created a very unique user interface on the head unit so you can actually analyze while you're riding what's going on and that's kinda the Holy Grail of our system is you can see you're pedaling technique efficiency and your loss and the entire stroke of both left and right leg now can you use it on the mountain bike or amusing crank specific or how do you order it? right now we have it built for the durance line up for cranks we'll be expanding that as we go forward we'll have two more by the end of the year so and we're opening up an independent specialty type dealers because the installations is done at the dealership yeah it's not something where you send a crank back to Pioneer and we do it we're actually teaching the dealers how to use it we give them a pretty intense training and also a installation kit with all kinds of jigs to make sure it's done perfectly and correctly awesome! and they do it the dealership and you can get it done with a day and a half at your local dealer. Warranty and price? two years warranty and the price for the power meter If you're gonna buy that separate is $1600 and a head unit is $900 so $2300 total very reasonable we're excited it's it's a pretty popular topic at the show power and having a dual strain gauge base product has really been something everybody has looked up pretty closely yeah I know that the dual strain gauge for me is very important is because your right leg is on top of sometimes stronger than your left and you don't really know that until you have a product like this to really you know analyze that and really dial that in. but you know where I hurt my hip that was a big big thing for us to make sure when I got recovered that I was able to have that strength in both legs still don't know if I'm exact but this is a product that would help get that fixed so I hope you keep cycling strong If you have any questions make sure you make a comment below we'l make sure that Russ has the link to this so if there's any questions he can answer those for you so will we but the most important thing is get out there and keep cycling we will be talking to you soon thank you
