Welcome to GTV! Today I will be installing a Shunt trip unit in an ABB TMAX series 3-pole
T4, T5, and T6 enclosed circuit breaker. These circuit breaker accessories should only be
installed with the breaker out of circuit or when all power has been removed from device,
control panel and anything nearby that may be a hazard to the qualified electrician doing
the installation. This shunt trip kit includes the shunt trip unit, a connector, two mounting
screws, a spacer, and device labels. In front of me are the T4, T5, and T6 circuit breakers.
To install the shunt trip unit, I will need to set the circuit breakers in the test position
by switching the breaker off and then pushing the test button here. Once they are in the
test position, I can remove the screws and take off the front plate of the T4 or T5.
To remove the cover of T6, I will use a slotted screwdriver to move the front plate down and
then out. Behind the plate on the T6 is another cover that is fastened by four screws. Removing
these screws will enable me to remove the front cover. On all models there is a side
cover where the wires will be routed. This can be removed by sliding it out of the grooves
toward the front of the breaker until it is released. I will not need this cover with
my shunt trip and can discard it after my installation. I will slide in the connector
on the side. With the T4 and T5 models, I will need to place this small spacer on the
right side of the opening on the left. It should be able to slide in with the groove
that is in place. The T6 models do not have the need for the spacer and can be discarded.
The shunt trip can be placed into the left space of the circuit breaker. I will use the
larger M4x12 mounting screw for fastening the top of the shunt trip to the breaker and
I will use the M3x10 mounting screw for the bottom. Then I can place the pins of the shunt
trip’s cable into the connector. Now I will reinstall the front cover and fasten the screws
to the frame. Finally, I will apply the legend decals on the side of the breaker for future
reference. I can now have a qualified electrician install and test the functionality of my circuit
breaker and shunt trip unit. This completes the installation of the shunt trip to the
TMAX series of circuit breakers. To find out more about this product and its accessories,
