Some of the author's who publish with us want a short run. A short run is when you print
a number of books through a printer, and it can be anywhere from one, to say five hundred
books, and then you pay for all the books up front, and then you store them yourself.
Unlike us, print on demand, where you print one at a time. This means that when you're
ready to publish your book, like Laurel Steinheist did with her book Mariane's Child, she knew
she wanted to order five hundred books up front, so we contracted with a printer and
they printed all five hundred books, and she paid for them, and she stores them and keeps
them herself. Short run printers often offer reduced prices the more books you order. So
if you order a thousand or two thousand books, your price per book would go down, but you
still have the problem of ordering that number of books and having to store them. So, make
sure that when you order short runs that you have the money up front to pay, and you have
a place to store your books.
