tied it so what is this new website and how does it differ from the billions of
other tell but i think that that that that
this was called
who plus you
and it was created in partnership with ryerson university in toronto and i
talked with the c_e_o_ and co-founder Doug Walker
all about how this works and it should be really just likens it to online
dating sites where
you post a profile any get matched up so it
so prospective employees people looking for work
would post a comprehensive the profile about themselves employers
employers would post job descriptions and all of that
and then algorithm goes out and that seeks to each other adults to see what
kind of a match they can find
and then there are a large that will be sent out when somebody skills and
experiences with the national debt and in employers job description
so instead of looking at job postings online
that hurts just kind of static there and you're sending your resume in
cover letter
this is where you set up our profile
comprehensive descriptions of who you are what you're looking for and what you
value
and they do the same
and if you match then fabulous and it's like this twenty four seven things work
you know new people who come on board you know to get into that whole search
thing
the interesting thing about this one is
it's anonymous
the employer
only sees your skills are your education we're looking for uh... you know way
back to you know later when you that used to reveal it so if you get a match
for instance they see the skills at everything education but they don't know
if you male or female at this point they don't know in a men's they don't even
know the company names of the schools you went to that that's going to redacted
their only seieng like this and they have the MBA belt weakened saving on
m_b_a_ have done this map of the won't see with school it's from so
i thought that was a kind of an interesting thing
you get to see as a job seeker the employer's posting before you reveal
your identity and if they're is that match
in that adds up to each side to figure out how you want to communicate connect
with each other
now if i'm looking for a job and i create a profile connect we could to
certain opportunities like the experts suggest
well that's an absolute blast at walker any we are always told you what a treat
to resume d each opportunity instead of sending out the same one everybody
um...
it doesn't sound like he can do that per se but what he sleeps is telling me that
ye need the profile of that kind of a timeline of all the stuff that you've
done you can add anything you wanted any point in time you know you could add
photographs and videos and
a pd_f_ file a word doc you whatever you want to
show
maybe a project that you've done specifically uh... or something like
that
shows many aspects of yourself as possible because
you know it's kind of the reversing instead of the prospect instead of me if
i'm looking for a job as head of me
sending my staff adults to the prospective atm
them players they're kind of sending open their feelers two while the job
seekers to see who fits
so you wanna put as much information about yourself it is
focused as possible
uh... so that you can get that hits it's like i guess if you're in a dating site
you say yeah i wanna meet somebody with this hight and this hair colour whatever
that's what you're going to get back
is gonna match you up
so we might missing possibilities so put as much of yourself out there as
possible in your profile
the likelihood you'll get more matches now doug walker sees two types of users
not just people for those looking for a job but
somebody
who've currently has a job to put up a profile
as well just to see where that kind of stand in the marketplace is a kind of
sort of test out the water's edge
well i can certainly see
the benefits of this kind of thing for for someone who's looking for work but
what's the the biggest benefit for employers
at times savings what that walker is telling me
is it is very time-consuming to search for the right candidate he put out job
at it and you get hundreds if not thousands of resumes come in in your
door and this
matching system
will only match the very top candidates for that job so maybe the only get eight
or ten
candidates matched and they look at that you know what percentage of
the criteria is matched to that
particular job profile
both sides will put up a profile for free
it's the employer who ends up paying if an employer wants a contact person on the
site
they can do it via i'm very multimedia ways they can do chat and
video conferencing whenever the employer actually pays nine dollars ninety nine
cents
to contact that person to the site
previous estimates all lined up a few months actually
round so they've really been testing area ryerson students and rising
graduate in alumni
that that over four hundred thousand jobs on the site right now live ten
thousand people looking for work three hundred have already been matched with
jobs
uh... anybody can go on it though
it is it for any one particular um...
field or uh... age range or whatever anybody can go on it and set up a
profile and they're looking for feedback from users
uh...
it certainly they'll be used as another tool can be seen as yet another tool
will help
narrow the skills gap
i don't know that it wouldn't necessarily
help um... you know the system searches on lots of levels
industries you've worked for department you've worked in things that uh...
they're focusing it down
it what it does do according to doug walker is it helps job seekers
better understand the marketplace that are and what they need to do in terms of
either more education or skills to get the jobs and i think that's
probably going to be really helpful to people
if they are aren't sure what else they need to do
this will probably tell them
you know you need this other skill set if you want this type of work
they be that will be helpful in terms of uh... closing the skills gap
doug walker says he hopes to revolutionize the job hunting process
and and help employers reach people faster and get those people in the door
faster
and so cuts down on that time
experts will say networking still very important who you know who knows you
uh... is still the space spoke with a lot of people get work
uh... and people can look good on paper i mean just because you have a high
match it doesn't mean that you're necessarily benefit that job is just
like i guess in go back to the dating analogy just because you look good on
paper you have all this is a common doesn't mean
the chemistry there in a lot kind of thing the human element of hiring
doesn't go away so you still have to deal with them as well
but again it is another way that people can put themselves out there both
employers and prospective job seeker so
just take a look at it who push you dot com if you're interested
thanks very much donna you're welcome
