Hello People of the internet! My name is Ryan Menezes and welcome to the
Last place forever where we talk about movies and junk!
Today we're talking sequels! Yay?
Harrison Ford has played many iconic characters from our childhood, Indiana Jones, The President
and Han Fricking Solo. Another character is Rick Deckard from 1982's
Blade Runner directed by Ridley Scott. He acted along side Rutger Hauer
and Lt. Einhorn Einhorn is a man!
A sequel was always rumored to be in the works and guess what? We're getting one!
Last week, it was announced that The NEW Blade Runner movie will be releasing ahead of schedule
by 3 months. Now I loved the original movie, watched it with my brother a
while ago and thought to myself…do I really want a sequel?
Hollywood loves doing this to movies. Recently though, it's been hurting projects.
Take The Hobbit Trilogy for example, it was ONE BOOK! But they made it 3 movies anyway
and why?
Oh no reason
There are certain things that should be left the way they are because they work out better
for the audience. Try something new for a change instead of
bringing classics back up and having a modern spin on it. It doesn't always work
(cough) Point Break, Judge Dredd, Robocop! Sorry
Breaking Bad is an excellent example of a show that ended when it was supposed to.
Vince Gilligan had an idea for 5 seasons and guess what?
The show lasted 5 seasons and to it's benefit. People LOVE that show.
It took you on a journey. You can see the stages of how this man transforms
from a pushover Chemistry teacher to the head of a Drug Empire.
It had great writing, great performances and come on! This line!
I am the one who knocks!
Need I say more?
That show had it's time in the light and now it's passed but will go down as a series with
almost no fat that needed to be trimmed and will be remembered for years to come.
Vince Gilligan could have done 5 more seasons if he wanted to and let's be honest,
we would've watched it, even if it got draggy and boring in the end.
But he didn't. 5 seasons was all he made. It's not about money it's about sending a message
That's how things should be. Film is such
a beautiful medium and is used to tell stories. Making money comes second.
Now, sometimes it works, studios bring back older movies to newer audiences.
Take the new Star Wars movie for example, it did really well! I loved the older movies
when I was a kid
Okay, maybe more than I should, but that's
not the point, it was satisfying for us older fans and brought
in younger fans as well. Studios must be mindful of these things before
they start a new project. Am I bringing in a classic solely for the
sake of monetizing it or am I trying to resurrect it, bring in new
audiences and tell compelling stories? People will always remember the bad before
they remember the good, so here's hoping they do justice to us movie lovers.
Are you worried about the new Blade Runner or are you hyped for the next eye gouging
sequel? Let me know in the comments below.
Thank you so much for watching and I shall see you at the movies.
