Good morning!
It's VEDA- Vlog Every Day August, and it's August 5th,
my mom's birthday, I'm about to call her and wish her a happy birthday.
And in my family, since we're Swedish, we call and sing a Swedish birthday song.
We used to do it as we woke up, when we all lived in the same house,
we would all wake the person when they were in bed with the birthday song
but now that we don't live in the same house, we call each other.
So, and later we're all going to celebrate at their house-
my mom and my dad's house- and celebrate both their birthdays.
So, I'm in the middle of uploading a whole bunch of family pictures
to a website I made for my dad, so he can look at the pictures
while he's traveling. Hopefully he'll like it. It's taking forever.
Um and in the background you might hear my printer printing away,
um I just revised my plan for my sign class,
so it's printing out a whole bunch of handouts.
So. I was thinkin' "What should I talk about on VEDA today,
other than what I'm doing today?"
So, first of all I was thinking about cutting my hair,
it's getting a little ratty, but I kinda like how it looks right now,
so I think I'll leave it.
And, I have an interview tomorrow for that tutoring job,
so that's why I was kinda thinkin' should I make myself look a little more...
spruced up? Of course I'll curl it. This is not curled right now.
And I would dress more professionally.
So hopefully that will all work out. I don't think I'll cut it.
Um. Anyway! So I was thinking about what to talk about for today
and that was how I've changed in the past year
My arm's getting tired. Ahh!
Um, since the last August VEDA Vlogs,
I think I've grown and matured a lot.
Um, I am more confident. Probably not any more articulate than I used to be.
But the confidence probably helps me be more articulate.
Um, I know more what I want out of life, and I feel grounded in that,
I feel great about my decision about resigning and becoming an interpreter.
And I've discovered just exactly where my sign skills are,
which is going to help me a lot when I go to school to practice my sign skills.
And um, I think I've opened up more to other people.
And become more friendly, um, a little less shy.
The shyness is still there, it's a work in progress, um,
I think I'm doing a lot better.
I just got back from celebraing my mom and dad's birthdays at their house,
and I'm tired. It's very hot. It's cloudy outside, but it's all muggy and hot.
It kinda makes you kinda- wiped out.
Um, but I thought I'd add a little bit to my vlog, (clears throat)
and sing the medley of songs that we usually sing, um, at,
when we celebrate each other's birthdays in my family.
So we've got two Swedish songs that we sing and then
an American- well the regular American 'Happy Birthday' song.
So this is what we sang to my mom today:
Vi gratulerar (we congratulate), Vi gratulerar, vi gratulerar
littla mamma idag (little Momma today)
Vi gratulerar (we congratulate), Vi gratulerar, vi gratulerar
littla mamma idag (little Momma today)
vår varma hyllning tag uppå din högtidsdag (our warm accolades/tributes, hold, on your day of honor/festival day)
Hurrah, hurrah, hurrah!
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear mommy,
Happy birthday to you!
So there you go! That's what my family sings
to each other each Happy Birthday time.
(laughs) and uh we sing that as we bring out the cake,
as we brought out a cake that my sister made,
it was kind of a meringue type of cake, with strawberries
and some sort of cream of some sort on it, it was delicious.
My sister makes the most awesome desserts.
She's just so awesome at it. She's a natural.
She just throws together the ingredients, like do-do-doo, no big deal!
And then she makes her own, um, challah bread,
I'm not sure exactly how to say it, it's a Jewish bread,
for um every Sabbath on every Friday night, um, she and her family
sit down and break the bread and do that kind of thing.
Um and then of course, it's delicious.
Um so anyway we did that and we put little candles in, um
so we lit them but it was too windy out.
We went outside, and the wind just blew 'em out, we went 'Oh darn!'
But oh well, that's o.k.
Um, so I got my mom a uh, kind of a gift that hasn't been bought yet,
My sister and I are going to take her to the Denver Art Museum
for the Spun exhibit, which is a fiber arts exhibit,
and she and I are all into fiber arts and she does quilting and
I do a kind of knitting and spinning and things like that
and so we're going to do that later on and then, um
I think I already said that I was uploading pictures to a website for my dad,
So, that's what he got. So, it was a nice afternoon,
I'm going to rest a little bit before I go and teach my class.
Which I'm looking forward to. So I will see you later!
