It all begun with one cataclysmic explosion.
From the core smaller than an atom were developed mass, space, and time.
Enormous radiance set in.
We raise our head up an enjoy it.
We engage in watching the Sun and keeping records of sunspots.
These are the signs of the Sun’s activity.
We watch meteors. There are periods when there are loads of meteors in the sky.
We observe the activity of such meteor showers.
We do some positional measurements, alignments.
I started with it as a 12 or 13 years old boy, when they opened the observatory in Rimavska Sobota.
And there I was also brought up as an astronomer.
I finished technical robotics and cybernetics.
As long as I have also worked with computers I do astronomical software.
Astronomy is physics, electrical engineering is also from its big part physics. Practically it is very similar.
For me it is a hobby
and each person has a hobby so everyone can imagine what it means to him (that hobby).
More or less we do basic research.
Today we do not know how we would benefit from it.
Most of the things I wanted to see, I have already seen.
I have seen meteor shower, total solar eclipse
and of course I would be happy if I had discovered a comet. But these are things that happen usually by chance.
Maybe you have heard that someone had discovered a comet and the comet was named by that person.
In today statistics most of the comets are named like
Linear after a robot telescope or Soho after a satellite which deals with the Sun research.
Each person thinks not only about space but also about various causalities.
Maybe I look at it from more physical and professional point of view
but each astronomer is also partly a philosopher.
Someone maybe feels small in space and someone else may feel the biggest
because for the moment only here intelligent life and life itself in space exists.
Although it was not discovered it does not mean that it does not exist.
Devoting my life to physics helps me in everyday life.
Physics is everywhere around us.
The other side of the thing is that for you two stars next to each other may mean nothing,
but for me it means just a lot because the constellation might be interesting.
There are things that do not appeal to a laic but they appeal to me.
I knew perfectly what would happen and how it would happen, theoretically.
But when you see it, it is completely different.
Total eclipse of the Sun is a literally whole life experience.
It is a theatre, nature theatre that you cannot pay for.
People’s reactions are different.
Someone shouts and hee – haws, other stares with their mouth wide open.
Last time I was in China.
I don’t know a person who saw the eclipse and said, “So what?”
Look, there are things that are very difficult to understand to an ordinary,
not only ordinary but also educated person. Some things seem to you supernatural.
Me personally I’m not a believer.
It has nothing to do whit it.
You cannot prove or disprove god.
None can persuade me about any kind of change.
If we could prove god we wouldn’t have this discussion here.
There would have to come someone and say why, where, how the god is.
But there is none to persuade me and
I cannot persuade others that he is not.
I have no argument for that.
Of course we will learn more and more. We will make step forward.
It wouldn’t be such a fragment of a second but far smaller.
But there still will be the question what was before it.
The question will remain.
From the physical point of view there is a simple answer.
There was no time before.
If there was no time, there was no before.
