This is the National Weather Service in Elko here to give everyone a heads up on the possibility
of a winter storm that may impact Northern Nevada on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
The storm is still 4 to 5 days out, so there is still quite a bit of uncertainty as far
as a storm track and the potential hazards.
This is a Northern Hemisphere satellite image taken early this morning. High pressure in
the eastern Pacific will bring pleasant weather to the region on Friday and Saturday. Further
north and west in the Gulf of Alaska is a storm system that will pass north and east
of the Silver State, but will still bring light snow showers to portions of northern
and northeastern Nevada on Sunday. In the Pacific Ocean, further west is a much larger
storm system, southwest of the Aleutian Islands. This system has the potential to affect Northern
Nevada next Tuesday and Wednesday with much cooler conditions and snow.
In summary, high pressure will bring nice weather to the region today and Saturday.
By Sunday, a storm system will move across the Rockies, and will affect only the northern
and northeastern sections of Nevada with light snow. But by Tuesday of next week, a much
stronger system may affect Northern Nevada. Because the storm track is very uncertain
at this time, the overall impacts of this system are not yet known. If traveling next
week, please stay tuned to your favorite weather provider before heading out.
