Arsenio: You've talked...extensively about how this man influenced you as a boxer,
why don't you talk to them about it.
Ray: Well its no big secret that, I emulate Muhammad
and sugar Ray Robinson, because..
..they transcended the sport of boxing and brought
entertainment, to a sport that was highly criticised
because of the nature of the sport.
And I'd take the time to thank Ali, because he made it possible for me...
...and Mike, to be in this position.
Ali: I don't want your hand I want your wallet.
Arsenio: You want money from you and Stallone.
If you, had to name him, say for he instance he were an opponent,
what would his name be?
Ali: 'The Rabbit'
Ray: Don't say that on television man.
Arsenio: Rabbits are cute.
Ray: They multiply too.
Arsenio: That's an interesting retort?
Arsenio: You are a student of boxing, you study all these films...
..that you bore your friends with, make them watch and everything.
Out of all your stuff you look at, with Muhammad Ali fighting,
- what's your favourite?
Tyson: Muhammad Ali and Cleveland Williams.
Ray: That was a beautiful fight man...
Ray: that was....artistic
Ali: You have a very good memory
Tyson: I wasn't even born, '66 wasn't it?
Tyson: '66 in the Euston Superdome.
Ray: I was 10.
Tyson: I wasn't born yet I don't believe..
Tyson: A long time ago I was in the Bronx and I was in a detention home for bad kids
...and Muhammad came and he visited us.
And this was at the time the movie 'The Greatest' was out.
So all the kids sat down and we watched the movie...
...and then Ali came in.
Once I saw him - and saw his impact and...
..what kind of aura he came in with, when he entered the room.
By no means from watching him fight, I knew I could never...emulate his style,
because he was so far advanced because of technology and everything,
he was the future as far as boxing was concerned.
I said, I'm gonna be like him.
And I meant I as far as, being famous, having money and just...
be me, the way I am now.
That's what I'm gonna do, I'm gonna be just like this guy.
As far as success is concerned.
I tell him this all the time, I must have been 10 years old then
And he says, get outta here! he never wants to hear it or anything.
But if I never met him that time, I would have never been the person I am now.
Arsenio: Did you actually get to talk to him?
Tyson: Oh yeah I talk to him all the time, he never wants to hear it.
Arsenio: No I meant back then at the detention centre?
Tyson: No I could never get spoken to because...
Ali: He had on brown pants and a yellow shirt.
Arsenio: Did you have on brown pants and a yellow shirt?
Tyson: Everybody had on brown pants and a yellow shirt.
Arsenio: Oh ok.
Arsenio: That was the uniform
Arsenio: Now what was it about that Cleveland Williams fight that you liked?
Tyson: Because, when you watched him
That was him at marvellous physical shape.
When you watch him in the later years,
his personality is reflecting,
his characteristics, his character, overwhelming everyone.
Because of deep down belief.
And totally manipulating the human minds, of that time
when fighters of that particular time before him
were just authentically tough, you hit me...who's gonna land..
..the first blow and who's gonna take it.
It was like...these authentic tough men coming in...
And he was just so marvellous and he would out-think them
and he would make them believe they were tired, he would talk to them,
Arsenio: The scientific approach.
Tyson: ...it was just totally unbelievable.
Ali: That's exactly what I told him to say.
Tyson: ...I guess, I dunno...
Tyson: I'm shocked just to be here with the Sugar Man and The Greatest...
Arsenio: He mentioned, talking to your opponent.
Did you talk to a lot of your opponents?
Now, you told me this wasn't true but Frazier claimed in this videotape...
..that you told him, that you were God or something like that.
Thats not true though right?
What would you say to Joe Frazier when you were in the ring?
Ali: 'You're in trouble sucker...'
Ali: I'm not talking bad about Joe.
Ali: ???
Arsenio: But you would talk to your opponents
Ali: ??? I got talked to from my last fight with Gorgeous George...
Arsenio: Gorgeous George yeah...talked a lot of stuff
Tyson: Never won though, he didn't win with regards to Ali
Ray: In fact, I learned to talk trash from watching Ali
Arsenio: Really, you talked to your opponents Ray?
Ray: Yeah, in a very...
...subconscious manner.
You know it's just, reverse psychology, and....
It didn't work with Tommy Hearns
I can't imagine Ray talking trash, 'By any means, would you care for a few more of these uppercuts'
Arsenio: Do you talk to people Mike?
Ray: Mike doesn't have to talk to nobody.
Arsenio: You've never talked to an opponent in the ring?
Tyson: Yeah, Tyrell Biggs
Arsenio: What d'you say to Tyrell?
Tyson: I remember one incident he said:
'Wow you throwing elbows too?' - I said 'You're gonna die!'...
Arsenio: You know what, it's probably our pleasure
to have this moment, just to say how bad you are man
and to sit down and kick it with you.
You are truly the greatest of all time.
Muhammad Ali
