WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE
BASE COULD OPEN UP NEW
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE
GOOD EVENING, I'M KATIE
USSIN. AND I'M MARK ALLAN
THE NEW GATE 1-A OPENED
TODAY.. MARKING A MILESTONE
TOWARD THE COMPLETION OF THE
STATE ROUTE 4-44 PROJECT.
YOU'LL RECALL IT CLOSED IN
EARLY OCTOBER.. RE-ROUTING
SOME 17-THOUSAND DRIVERS DAILY.
THE NEW GATE WILL IMPROVE
SECURITY.. AS WELL AS ADD
BICYCLE LANES TO ONE OF THE
BASE'S MAIN THOROUGHFARES.
IT MAY ALSO HELP THE AREA'S
BUSINESSES. AS JORDAN
BURGESS EXPLAINS IN TONIGHT'S
TOP STORY THE GATE MEANS MORE
THAN JUST DOLLARS AND CENTS.
3
GATEWAYS NORMALLY MARK NEW
BEGINNINGS. BUT THIS ONE
ALSO SIGNALS THE END OF A
JOURNEY. IT MAKES ME GLAD HE
DIDN'T GO THROUGH THIS LIFE
UNNOTICED AND UNAPPRECIATED.
RIBBON CUTTING WRIGHT
PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE
DEDICATED ITS NEW GATE THAT'S
CONTROL OF THE SECTION OF
STATE ROUTE 444 THAT RUNS
THROUGH THE BASE. BUT MORE
THAN SECURE AN AREA..THE GATE
HAS SECURED A LEGACY. THIS WAS
WAY BEYOND WHAT I EVER WOULD
HAVE EXPECTED FROM THE AIR
FORCE. THE GATE IS NAMED FOR
AIRMAN FIRST CLASS NOAH MUONIO.
MUONIO WAS KILLED IN AUGUST
BY A DISTRACTED DRIVER WHILE
RIDING HIS BIKE ALONG 444. TO
SHARE WITH US THE LOVE AND
HONOR YOU HELD HIM IN WAS A
GIFT THAT COMFORTED AND HEALED
US. THE NEW ROAD WILL HAVE
BIKE LANES TO PREVENT A
TRAGEDY LIKE THAT FROM EVER
HAPPENING AGAIN. BUT IT
COULD ADD MORE TO THE BASE
THAN JUST SAFETY AND SECURITY.
IT ALSO PROVIDES ADDITIONAL
REAL ESTATE FOR NEW MISSION
DEVELOPMENT. FAIRBORN
LEADERS ARE HOPING FOR SOME
DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR OWN ALONG
THE NEW ROUTE DRIVERS WILL
HAVE TO TAKE WITH 444 NOW
CLOSED. WITH REROUTING OF THE
TRAFFIC WE THINK THAT'S GOING
TO ENTICE BUSINESSES TO TAKE A
SECOND LOOK AT THAT AREA OF
TOWN. WHAT KIND OF
DEVELOPMENT THE NEW GATE WILL
LEAD TO ISN'T KNOWN. BUT IF
IT LIVES UP TO ITS
NAME...THINGS WILL BE JUST
FINE. THIS GATE IS NAMED AFTER
FIRST CLASS AIRMAN MUONIO TO
ASSURE HE IS NEVER FORGOTTEN.
THEY RECOGNIZED THOSE VALUES
AND RECOGNIZED THOSE THINGS IN
NOAH AND NOW THEY'VE
MEMORIALIZED THEM. JORDAN
BURGESS. 2NEWS.
