FRANCESCA CORNELLI: Some recent research I've been
doing is studying the role of private equity in emerging
markets, in particular, in Eastern Europe and the
ex-Soviet Union countries.
And these are countries where managerial skills are scarce.
And therefore, there is a need for advisory role and
improvement of their skills.
And we have used a unique data set, which is very detailed
about what private equity decisions did, what was the
effect over the years.
And we could show that actually there is a lot of
monitoring, a lot of attention to what the manager is doing,
trying to discern exactly what their skills is.
And then following intervention, we find a
definite improvement in the performance of the company.
