In the Online Student Profile, faculty members are able to record advising
notes for students.
These notes are beneficial to faculty because:
Faculty advisors can log conversations from the advisee meetings and document
the recommendations that were made to the students.
This can help avoid miscommunications between the student and their advisor.
Especially when students are advised in the future there is a record of all the
suggestions that were made to the student.
The documentation of an advisee meeting is important because it allows other
advisors to view a precise time line of the students’ academic
advisement history.
It is important for advisors to stay current with any modifications to
previous recommendations.
This is to make sure students are on the right track with their program
requirements and are continuing to move in the right direction.
Students may not visit with their assigned academic advisor for every
registration period
because of conflict with scheduling or campus locations.
They may decide to meet with another faculty member in the department or visit
with an advisor who is available at the moment to speak with them.
Therefore the advising notes allow assigned advisors to keep up with any
advisement that has taken place from another advisor.
This avoids discrepancies in information provided to students and thus students can
make the best decisions to accomplish their academic and career goals.
