We're at the Indian Community School of Milwaukee, which is actually located in Franklin, on
a campus that is a little over a hundred acres. And the students that come here have native
ancestry. In 2003 I asked to be apart of the design team. To me it was important that I
thought about architecture being apart of culture. And culture being intergrated into
buildings. Specifically my own culture, American Indian culture. I grew up on the Oneida reservation
near Green Bay, I'm from Wisconsin. Went to undergraduate in architecture at UWM. There
are very few Native American architects, as far as architectural professers go that's
an even smaller group. I try to integrate culture into my work, both for American Indian
clients and non-American Indian clients. I think it's important that the buildings reflect
their place and the people that use them. I am Chris Cornelius an enrolled member of
the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin and associate professor of architecture at UWM.
