Game of Thrones season 8: Missandei star Nathalie Emmanuel drops script bombshell
The actress has played Daenerys Targaryen’s (played by Emilia Clarke) right-hand woman and scribe, Missandei, in Game of Thrones since season three.
But Nathalie, 29, has revealed she was only ever due to last a few episodes when she was first cast for the role.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Nathalie spilled: “When I got that part it was really vague.
The character breakdown was like maybe three to five episodes with the potential for future seasons.
“It was really vague, they didn’t know whether she would continue but it was a recurring part.
As a big fan of the show, Nathalie admitted she didn’t mind the fact she was only going to last a very short period.
She said: “I was happy to be in one episode! I was such a huge fan I was like I will take it, whatever.
Missandei has stuck by Daenerys’ side throughout her mission to conquer Westeros to take the Iron Throne.
She has become a vital person in the Mother of Dragons’ quest but Nathalie said she didn’t expect to last this long.
“I was not expecting to still be here in the last season at all,” she divulged.
Nathalie added: “I assumed I would get killed off.
In the Game of Thrones books, the character of Missandei is completely different to Nathalie’s portrayal.
Missandei is a child in the book so Nathalie has been able to develop the character in her own way.
She said: “A lot of what happens in show doesn’t happen in books so it’s given me full creative license to make those choices for her which as an actor, is satisfying and fulfilling.
“I couldn’t have got more from this part, it’s given me everything.
Nathalie also said she doesn’t even want to think about saying goodbye to the show and co-stars just yet with the HBO series coming to a close.
“I can’t even think about it, I’m not ready for that conversation,” she said.
“I am enjoying the time because I know when it’s over it’s gonna take a minute for it to sink in that I’m not going back to see everyone next year.
Aside from filming scenes for the final season of Game of Thrones, Nathalie has been busy promoting newly-released film, The Titan.
The star plays Tally Rutherford in the sci-fi film which also stars Sam Worthington and Taylor Schilling.
The movie follows Sam’s character as she becomes involved in a military experiment that will create a human capable to survive the environments of Saturn’s moon, Titan, due to the Earth becoming uninhabitable.
