of him pumping vast amounts of oil into his body.
COMM: The 43 -year-old is just one of a growing
number of body conscious Brazilians, sculping their muscles with a concoction of mineral
oil, alcohol and anaesthetic.
COMM: When injected, the mixture bulks up
the body to give the impression of muscle mass. but some enthusiasts in the bodybuilding
world fear it can cause severe infections, that result in amputations, or even death.
COMM: The bodybuilder grew up in Olinda, worshipping
Hollywood musclemen like Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was already taking a cocktail of steroids
when he was offered the muscle enhancing substance at a gym two years ago.
COMM: Arlindo injected it four times a week
for two months, and the dramatic boost to his body soon made him the talk of the town.
His family were also shocked by his new look.
COMM: Despite his burgeoning fame, Arlindo
is concerned about the damage he has done in his pursuit of perfection. Especially after
the death of a close friend.
COMM: His name is Paulinho. He was my friend.
He passed away by doing these things. He went beyond the limit. I've stopped the oil. But
