Hi, this is Yolanda Vanveen on behalf of Expert Village. In this series we're going to be
learning about how to make house plants a little more stylish. In this segment we're
going to talk about using moss and lichen. Still we discovered that rocks are always
a beautiful thing in your containers. But you can also use moss and lichen. So moss
grows naturally on trees in the forest areas so when you buy moss, it's best to buy some
that has been dried out or that is fresh from your own property. But you never collect it
from wild sites some moss and lichen are great additions to gardens. You can easily change
your rock garden into a moss garden by covering it up. In this plant I got some rocks and
a little statue and that looks really nice. But you can change your house plants by the
season or just because you want a little change. That is what style is all about is changing
your look. So it's pretty simple. You just lay it on your base of your plant and you
can always mix it up with the rocks too; you just don't have to have moss. I particularly
love lichen (it's spelled Lichen) and it grows on trees as well in the Pacific North West
cause we are pretty much a rain forest here. It's just a beautiful light light color that
adds a lot of texture and color to the house plants. So even when I'm using moss I would
combine it with lichen and maybe even fill in a couple of spots just to have a little
bit of difference in the color. So once you lay down your lichen and your moss, you have
a whole new look for your plant and it's a great way to add style to your house plants.
In the next segment we're going to talk about different planters that you can select in
your house plants.
