The event that I am here today is part of the Otley science festival. They invite every
3 months or so scientists to talk about the science that they do and it’s a public open
meeting and it’s an occasion for us to communicate with the public but science and the work that
we do at the university. We have received quite a substantial amount of funding from
Yorkshire cancer research one of our scientific sponsors and also from the government and
it’s very important for us to communicate with the people how that money is helping
to find new cure for cancers. It’s also a message of hope because cancer is a disease
that influences everyone it touches all our lives our friends, neighbours, family everybody
and it’s saying how new discoveries are being made that are going to help these people.
Above all it’s about people who are interested in science, showing people that there is a
lot of science going on in Bradford and in other places ion Yorkshire and it’s about
curiosity about the new discoveries and new technologies that are being developed. It
is about bringing help to the people in this country and around the world, as I said cancer
is a disease that is very prevalent and the sort of research that we do is forefront we
are covering new therapeutics that are not covered by any other people, any other research
groups and any other pharmaceutical companies because we are an academic group we can afford
to do that because it’s all about finding interesting and new ways of curing cancer.
The research is very important to the students
