Hello! Welcome to the lesson! We constantly meet new people and make friends in life.
When we meet someone new, we want to know which place they are from.
So how would you ask that question and how would you answer it? Today’s lesson is all about that.
Listen to all the sample conversations, and also make sure you check out the vocabulary section at the end.
You can practice the lines by pausing the lesson and repeating the dialog anywhere you want!
Let’s get it started now!
Hello.
Hi.
How are you?
I'm good. How are you?
Good. Do you speak English?
A little. Are you American?
Yes.
Where are you from?
I'm from California.
Nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too.
Hey Nathan.
I have never asked you before but what’s your hometown?
My hometown is Washington.
I am from New Jersey.
Oh cool! I like New Jersey.
Hey Yuki. How are you?
Hi Garry. I’m good. How about you?
I’m just fine.
Okay.
Sorry to bother you but which country are you from?
No, it’s okay. I am from Japan.
Okay. Where in Japan?
I am from Tokyo. You’re from The States, right?
No, no. I am from Toronto, Canada.
Okay, nice! You seem like you are from The States.
Yeah. Well there isn’t a lot of difference you know.
Yes. I agree.
Hey Leo! Are you from Hawaii?
Yes. I was born and brought up in Hawaii.
Okay.
Are you from Hawaii too?
No. I am from Washington Dc. I’ve come here to work.
Okay. So were you born and brought up in Washington Dc?
Yes, indeed.
Okay. Cool!
United states of America is commonly referred to as The States, specially inside the United States of America.
The city where you born and brought up in, is the city where you spent your childhood.
When you belong to some place,
you’ve lived there for a long time and you identify with that place, its culture and its people.
Your hometown is the town where you spent most of your life, specifically your childhood.
