In this video we'll quickly show you some of the substances we use,
all natural of course, to keep our natural dye colours permanent.
The process starts with these.
Burnt coconut tree roots used to clean the silk before applying
any natural dyes.
One of Dao's grandma's secrets is this.
Eucalyptus tree bark. A very important colour fixative or mordant.
Another of her grandma's secrets. Tamarind fruit.
They look a bit like dates don't they but they are a great mordant
and also very helpful in changing some of our natural
dye colours.
Dried lemongrass. After 4 or 5 weeks in the sun.
Again another important colour fixative as part of our total
chemical free process.
And believe it or not, these are rice padi oyster shells.
They are cooked for 4 or 5 hours.
There is the final result.
That gooey substance and a very important mordant and another
beautiful natural dye colour changer.
Dao's laughing because she is just telling everyone she's going
to check what I'm saying to make sure I've got
it right.
Here she is cutting up Lok Far saplings. Another important part of
our mordant or colour fixative process.
Totally chemical free.
