Hi everyone, this is Andy from Delishbeads.com
and today I'm going to talk a little bit about "hotfix."
Hotfix is a type of glue that you can
find on studs like these, or hotfix crystals
and it's basically a type of plastic, I think
or kind of like hot glue gun glue
it's not sticky
but when you heat it up with an iron it will melt and get wound up...
the glue will permeate into fabric and create a permanent bond
You heat it up... By the way this is an ironing pad. You're going to want something
like this underneath
the fabric that you're applying the hotfix stuff on
but this is the main tool here. this is called a hotfix iron
I bought this one for around twenty dollars at Michael's
it's like a soldering iron, the tip gets pretty hot so you want to be sure not
to touch it because you could probably
get burned pretty bad.
But it's pretty simple to apply the studs, you just apply heat for thirty
seconds
and after that you want to give it a chance to cool off
The nice thing about hotfix studs and crystals is that if you want to apply them to something
other than fabric you can use craft glue like E6000 or epoxy
that gives you some versatility there
we've got about ten more seconds
so that's thirty seconds
uh... you want to give this a little bit of time to cool down because
especially with the metal studs it's going to be hot. You might burn yourself like I did a few
minutes ago
But, I'm going to pull this away a little bit from the fabric so you can you can see
kind what's going on here. You see the damp spot on the fabric? That's where the
glue was melting into the fabric
and there's little strands of glue
that you can see stretching out
that just underscores what i'm saying: you really want to give this a chance to
cool down
These other ones, these other colors are ones that i did a few minutes ago
and you can see that the bond
with the fabric is really strong
so you can do all kinds of things with this
technique.. You can make your own patterns, designs...
have fun with it! :)
thanks for watching!
