Alright so as promised we are going to be covering a lot of those hot topics that I
constantly get over and over again. Maybe you're a new subscriber and you don't want
to watch the previous videos in which I've touched on them or you may want to know if
I have updated some of my thoughts on some of these topics. I do evolve my knowledge
so something that I may have said last year or a few years ago may be different today.
I believe that if you talk to anyone who is a professional that researches and keeps up
to date with things will change their opinion, not just with research but with experience
from watching others and learning. That's my motto, 'The more you know, the more you
grow.'
We're going to talk about intermittent fasting today and this was a hot topic that I touched
on last year and I have made reference to it in other videos. Most of you that follow
me know that I am not a fan, specifically for my skinny guys because it's not optimal
for building maximum muscle mass. What I am interested in when I am working with a skinny
guy is not just maintaining muscle or preventing muscle loss but exploiting maximum muscle
gain. The whole idea of intermittent fasting goes against our body's endocrinology and
basic physiology, it goes against our body. I know that I lot of males get away with it,
however in the long term intermittent fasting is going to do two things. It's going to make
you smaller and it's going to make you weaker. I promise you that the longer that you do
intermittent fasting the smaller and weaker you will get in the long term.
There are a lot of people that say they feel strong when they start doing intermittent
fasting and that's primarily because there is less inflammation in their body and when
there is less inflammation in the body your joints will feel better and you'll be able
to train harder. That's a short term response and you can achieve that response by managing
the type of carbohydrates that you eat. For me intermittent fasting, I'll try to think
of an analogy, it's kind of like, in relation to fat loss, it's kind of like you using a
sledgehammer to kill a fly on a window. Not only are you going to destroy the fly but
you're going to break the window, you may even bring down the wall, and in some cases
the house might collapse too.
In my opinion intermitting fasting is overkill and is really too much of a good thing. You'll
hear people that will say that it works for them and they make them feel better, here's
something to think about, drugs make you feel better. Just because you feel better it doesn't
necessarily mean that it is healthy for you and that's something that you guys need to
take in mind. If I take a drug I feel better, it masks the problem but it doesn't necessarily
mean that the drug is good for your health and it doesn't mean that I am making improvements.
So keep that in mind as well.
The big thing with intermittent fasting is that there is some new research that has been
shown that it horrendous, well not horrendous but certainly dangerous, for females. I strongly
advise any female that plans on having kids to go anywhere near to intermittent fasting.
I'm going to post a link to a great article that Charles Poloquin wrote called the 'Pros
and Cons of Intermittent Fasting' below. I was at his event and he told me that he wrote
this article on intermittent fasting and everybody got their jimmies tied up in a bunch, and
I expect the same result with this video, it's totally fine. I encourage you to read
the article; it'll go into a lot of research on why, specifically for females, it's unsafe.
It's not even an option that you could consider 'What about me?' it is completely unsafe and
dangerous. It's something that I wouldn't even when Flavi asked me about it, 'Should
I intermittent fast?' We want to have kids, as some of you may know we're pregnant now,
we're expecting and I absolutely said no! There is just no way. Females, read the article
below, do your due diligence and research it.
A few good things about intermittent fasting, which I definitely want to highlight and I
think these are the reasons why people have so much success with it, is that number one,
depending on the protocol that you are following. I don't want to go into depth on that but
let's say that you are cutting out half a day, you don't eat when you wake up and you
don't start eating until about noon time, you're wiping out half the day. A lot of you
guys have heard me say that intermittent fasting is a lazy way to lose fat and what I mean
by that, again I don't mean that offensively. I don't mean that you are a lazy person, I
know that you still have to manage the other half the day but you do have less time in
the day that you have to manage, there's less calibration that is required. You're wiping
out have the day so you have less meals to worry about managing and we all know that
what gets measured gets managed so there is less to measure which means that it is easier
to manage. A lot of people find that intermittent fasting is easier to adhere to, it's easier
to follow a plan that only has you eating half of the day than a whole day. I get it,
that makes complete sense to me and I can understand why somebody would say that they
like this approach and will keep doing it, that's fine.
So on summary, the main things to take away from the article if you are too busy to read
them: Number one, it is not optimal for maximum muscle mass. In the long run term you are
going to become smaller and you are going to become weaker. If you don't believe me,
become a guinea pig and I guarantee you that in a month, in two months, in three months
from now you will get smaller and weaker the more that you do intermittent fasting. Rarely
will you ever see a big, big muscular guy, who is natural, doing any form of intermittent
fasting. If you do remember what we call them, boa constrictors and what's a boa constrictor?
They are lose guys that can build muscle eating protein once every 27 days, they are the exception
to the rules.
Number two is that for females it is dangerous and can actually lead to a decrease in fertility.
I would not recommend it for any female whatsoever, unless you want to really ruin your health.
Number three is that males tend to be able to get away with intermittent fasting more
but it works against your body's hormones, it increases stress, cortizol and belly fat.
It is not an optimal way to lose fat as I have mentioned, it's like using a sledgehammer
when really all you need is a fly swatter, its overkill.
Alright so before we wrap I think I need to say this because I know this is a hot topic.
Feel free to leave comments below but if you leave any insulting comments, if you leave
anything that is juvenile, immature or non-constructive, your comment will be deleted. So if you have
something that goes against what I say then that is completely fine, post it below, however
if it's done in an insulting, immature or non-constructive fashion it will be deleted
and you will be blocked. I consider this my home and I consider the comments section like
my living room, I wouldn't expect you to come into my living room and be disrespectful just
like you wouldn't expect me to come into your living room and be disrespectful. Be mature,
let's have a great healthy discussion below and next time we are going to cover body-building
versus power-lifting. Pros and cons, body-building versus power-lifting, we'll talk to you soon.
