hi everyone
welcome to the new episode of NGS
in this episode, we will return to the console reviewing
we will review a console from Sega
which is
Sega Master System
here we go
this console released in 1986 in US
and in Japan in 1985
thats the first 8 bit console from Sega
Sega wanted to beat Nintendo in video game market
and there was a huge historical war between those two
the console was succeed in Europe
the big question is:
did the Master system manage to defeat the NES?
the answer is: of course not
there was a huge support for the NES, especially from third party companies
but that does not mean the Master system don't have good games
Master system have an awesome library of games that everyone should try them out
any collector should try it
for me, thats the first video game console I played before the NES
and enjoyed it very much
we will talk about games later after we describe the design
as you can see this is the console
it has an a rectangular design
and up here its not flat at all
kinda like a pyramid, or samosas of you are hungry!
lets talk more about the showcase
that's the cartridge slot, and fortunately it have a cover that protects it from dust
thats the reset button
thats the pause button
that's right! the pause button on the console it self!
what a life!
that's the power button in the front
here, the controller ports
and this port is used for games that designed in tiny cards
but it wasn't famous, so only a few games that released for it
lets talk about the back side
this is the adapter port
and thats the RF port
here you see the AV port
and its different from NES
and that switch for changing the channel
how do you use it?
for example, if you select channal 3 in your TV, you set Channal 3 on the console too
or 4, depends on your choice
but nowdays no one is using this thing
lets talk about the controller
the size is similar as the NES controller, and the buttons are using numbers instead of letters
you will notice there are no Start and Select buttons unlike the NES
and thats one of the flaws
its really annoying! you have to move from your place just to pause the game or get to the menu
and press the pause button from the console! seriously???
hello?
hi Saif
I am fine
alright then, no problem, take care
hello
hi Hamad
how are you?
how is it going?
long time no see
alright then
talk to you latter and say hi to everyone for me, take care
ENOUGH !!!!
that's the only solution! that's right!
FUUUUUUUUUU !!!!
anyway, lets talk more about the controller
the D-pad is so soft
its not comfortable as the NES
but its not bad in general
adding the 4 angles was a good idea
you can use Sega Genesis controller on it by the way
and it will work perfectly
there is an info I would like to share
what about the select button in Sega?
Sege never used the Select button in any of its consoles!
I'll prove it
Sega Genesis
Game Gear
Sega Saturn
and Dreamcast
none of them have the Select button
there is a Mode button for Nomad, but its for changing between 6 and 3 buttons
anyway, thats just an info and its not a flaw
lets talk about the game covers and cartridges
lets start with the covers
unlike the NES covers that made by a weak cardboard and they can get damaged easily
Master System covers were made by a strong plastic
and prevents the cartridges from getting damages, much better than the NES covers, I give them a credit for it
but there is a flaw in the pictures of the covers
I don't like it in my opinion, which is....
these little squares look like .... an Arabian skirt .. and it doesn't need that
its should be a blank white or any color that fits for the game
but the most important thing is: the protection of the cartridges
lets talk about the cartridges
and this is it as you can see
its looks like the Famicom cartidges but its completely rectangular
the size is almost the same
if you compare it to the NES cartridges, its a lot smaller
the design is okay
but don't like the sticker that contains only the game title and Sega icon
not even the game picture unlike the Nes and the Famicom
there is only a blank red background with squares
I don't get it, considering the release of Master System, its released after the NES
that's about the original model and cartridges, lets talk about the other model
that's the Sega Master System 2
its released in 1990
as you can see, the design is completely different from the orginal
its a lot smaller and much lighter
lets describe it deeply
this is a cartridge slot and its cover is different form the original, you have to open it by your self
thats the pause button
here is the power switch
controller ports
at the back there is an adapter port
RF port
and the switch for changing channel like the one on the original
the model look is much better than the original, but there are things they didn't get them right
firstly, there no a reset button
secondly, they put the pause button on the console ONCE AGAIN !!
instead of designing a controller that has the start button for this model and solve the problem
they decided to be more stubborn!
thirdly, this model does not have the port for Sega card games
unlike the orginal
probably because this technology didn't succeed
and finally, there is no AV port
the same mistake that Nintendo did with the NES top loader
there are 2 colors for this model which are black and grey
and that all about Sega master system 2
now we will talk about the adapters for playing Master System games
that's the Master System converter
with it you can play Master System games on Sega Genesis or Mega Drive
that's the cover of the cartridge slot
thats the port for Sega card games that we saw in the original model
thats the pause button
you can insert it easily
and of course you can use Sega Genesis controller on it
by the way, it works on Retron 5
I made a review for Retron 5
you can check the link there
thats all about master system converter
lets talk about other kinds of converters
this is the one
Gear Converter Master
there are many kinds of it and thats the one that I own
you can use it on Sega Game Gear
the design is decent
there is only a cartridge slot
you can insert it easily too
you have to tight it form the back by a screw
then you insert the cartridge
now lets play
the resolution is not that good
but at least you can play the games without the TV
that's all about the converters
lets talk about some good games
The Ninja
its a side scrolling shooter like Contra
but it has an overhead view
you have to walk farward and defeat the Ninjas
you can get the upgreats by defeating the enemies
its a good game in general
Power Strike, or Aleste in the Japanese version
its a space shooter game
this is one of the best space shooter games because its challenging
and there are a lot of weapons
not to mention the epic soundtrack, you should add this game to your library
Wonder Boy 3 The Dragon's Trap
its an adventure game
and its a sequal to Wonder Boy in the monster world
your goal is discovering the dungeons and castles and defeating the bosses
each time you defeat a boss you will transform into different animals
and each one has its own ability
you can call it a Zelda game for Master System, you should try it out too
Fantasy Zone
another space shooter game with side view
you can move more freely, forward or backward
the world of this game is like cartoons and more childish
even the enemies look funny
but the game is enjoyable
you can get to the shop by taking the shop icon and buy weapons
but they won't live for long, don't worry you can get the money quickly and buy others
all you have to do in this game is defeating the enemies until the boss appears
than you defeat it
after that you will be advanced to the next stage and thats it, is a good game in general
Kenseiden
its an action 2D game and you play as Hayato, the dragon samurai
your main weapon is a sword of course
and your goal is finding all the scrolls that let you learn new moves
from the bosses
and you have to discover the stages by using the map
after being ready, you can go to the final castle and fight the final boss
this game is so awesome and it has a dark atmosphere
thats all about the games
In conclusion, this is all about Sega Master System
its a good console
you will probably ask, is this console worth buying?
I will tell you my honest opinion
I say, buy the converter only if you already have the Sega Genesis
not to mention
the controlling in Sega Genesis is much better than Master system
even if you don't have the both consoles
neither Sega Genesis nor Master System
I would say buy Sega Genesis with converter
you will enjoy Sega Genesis games and Master Systems games on one console
and this is all I can say about it
thank you guys for watching and I'll see you in the next episode
