The W.E.E.
Learning bus is a computer bus
on wheels.
It brings internet, computers,
and conversation to parents and
children, as both work on the
needs they have academically.
We just believe that the more
that parents are connected to
school, the better their kids
will be.
The learning bus, which operates
under the W.E.E., Womens
Endowing Enducation is a, it's
just a tool to connect with
parents, while kids can also
receive some acedemic
enrichment.
The W.E.E.
Bus, it's just a really unique
school bus.
This was a school bus that
actually was in the fleet and
was rotated out, and it was made
into a computer lab.
And so the computers inside are
wirelessly connected to the
internet which is provided by
Sprint.
And it's for those kids that
might not have internet at home
or computers at home and so when
they roll up, it's quite
attractive to kids because they
haven't seen anything like it
before.
So it'll pull in and you'll all
of a sudden hear some kids in my
building holler "The W.E.E Bus
is here!
The W.E.E Bus is here!
But yeah, they really love the
W.E.E. Bus.
I think it's a really good
opportunity for them.
The parents might be able to
look at job search engines, how
to create a resume.
One tonight is working on
General Education Diploma
classes.
And so these are just a few
things that they can do while
they're here in addition to the
kids receiving that enrichment.
A lot of adults don't get that
continuing education, here i
learn Spanish.
I learned to speak a common
conversation in Spanish just on
the W.E.E. Bus.
The internet is a lot, now days.
The mobility peice from an
internet standpoint is they're
not using it while it's on the
move.
They're actually driving to
different locations and parking
the bus.
And the mobility peice is key
because you can't go to an
apartment complex and jump on
their WiFi necessarily,
especially in the areas they're
going.
So they needed some sort of WiFi
solution with a cellular
backhaul.
And we were able to do that and
it really was simple.
A cradlepoint router and a card,
two of those and it has given
plenty of connectivity for what
their activities are.
We believe as more time that
parents are doing homework with
the kids, we feel like that's
pretty important.
And so when a parent is sitting
next to their child, and whether
that parent is working on their
GED, while the child is working
on their homework, it just
reinforces that education is
important.
And when the children sense
this, that it's important to the
parent, it's going to be
important to them.
