Why do I like planning?
Why do I like what I do?
I can see the results.
I can come up and shake hands with people,
and thank me for what we've created.
A lot of jobs you can't do that.
I just always was fascinated with the city
and with planning.
Upon graduating from Ryerson I went into municipal planning
and decided very quickly that I hated it.
At that point I turned and looked at development and
from there we started as a company of four employees
to oversee the lands in the Angus Glen Community.
We don't call ourselves Kylemore Homes,
because anybody can build a home.
We call ourselves Kylemore Communities.
Things don't happen always the right way,
and things don't happen always as you plan,
it's how you adapt to the challenges,
that they don't become challenges
they become opportunities.
That psyche came from Ryerson.
They allowed us to look and think outside the box.
The diversity of Ryerson allowed me to be
diverse in my everyday life.
Who brought me back to Ryerson, who has been the best voice for
all our grads and alumni is professor David Amborski.
Myself and Frank Clayton and
David Amborski just started
the Centre for Urban Issues on Land Development in Ryerson;
An independent voice that can help shape
the future of our city and the GTA.
I'm extremely proud to have won this award.
As this has evolved it's becoming more and more of an
honour that I didn't realize I actually had.
