Hi everyone and welcome to my second update of the North Africa group build.
As you can see the model is finished now. I won´t build a diorama for it,
mainly because i don´t have proper figures in my stash.
I have some Tamiya Italian officers but i don´t like Tamiya figures very much. I prefer the model as it is.
With regard to my problem with the tires, i found no adequate solution.
I tried to carve the tire profile into the parts with a miller, but it looked not very convincing.
Then i searched for aftermarket resin tires, but there are none available.
Now i have tires without profile on the model, its not great but there is no better solution.
I don´t get why Italeri is not able to mould two plastic parts in a way that i can simply glue them together.
Other manufacturers are able to do that, but somehow that is an issue of Italeri.
Apart from that the kit is very nice. The little filling i did on the engine hood payed off,it looks very good to me now.
The gaps on the engine hood were a bit too deep, but i managed to make it look very nice.
The decals were nice, nothing to complain about.
First of all i primed the model with black acrylic paint, then i applied a coat of olive green.
Then i applied Humbrol Maskol with a sponge and sprayed the model with sand yellow.
When dried up you can remove the Maskol again and you get these cool chipping effects.
Its a very nice way to create chipping. I´m a bit clumsy when it comes to painting the chipping on with a brush, it does not work for me.
I prefer Maskol, the results are good.
Then i painted the interior parts and glued them in place.
Finally i added some light dust weathering, mainly with MIG "light European earth" pigments.
As you can see its a very light tone, on the bottle it says "European" but in my opinion its right for Africa too.
The model is very dusty overall.
The kit is decent, but the tires are really a problem.
If someone has a better solution than me or if there are resin tires available in the future it is definately worth a look.
Its such an elegant vehicle. Italian military vehicles are not that rare, but compared to the US or Wehrmacht stuff they are underrepresented.
Now you will see some detail pictures of the model.
See you in the next video, your Hamilkar Barkas.
