ABOVE TOP SECRET JIMMY CARTER'S UFO SIGHTING
Over the years, almost all of the presidents of the United States have chosen to either
completely disregard the UFO phenomenon as ludicrous or ignore it completely, with two
notable exceptions.
Jimmy Carter, a one term president in the 1970s, not only addressed the UFO phenomenon
but also claimed to be a witness to it and his successor Ronald Reagan.
THE PRESIDENTS WHO ADDRESSED THE UFO PHENOMENON Back in 1969, Jimmy Carter claimed that he
was getting ready for a speech at the Lions Club during his campaign for the governorship
of Georgia when he became aware of a strange object hanging in the sky.
He described the object as being at least as bright as the moon and changing color from
blue to red and finally to white before it vanished suddenly from view.
Once he was elected as the governor, Carter filed a report about his unusual experience
at the International UFO Bureau in Oklahoma City.
This triggered an investigation, but those working on the project could not get to the
bottom of what he had seen and reported that the investigation was inconclusive.
Some of the investigators believed that it was the planet, Venus, whereas others suspected
that it could be a weather balloon.
However, Carter himself believed that the investigators were wrong and that he had had
a genuine UFO experience.
His experience was clearly on his mind when he made his bid for president of the United
States.
Following his election in 1977, Carter said that he wanted to push for more transparency
when it came to the UFO phenomenon and put pressure on the CIA and other government agencies
to put all information that they had compiled over the years about the mysterious sightings
in the public domain.
Despite the fact that he had the power of the presidents office behind him, Carter
was met with incredibly strong resistance from these government agencies.
It has been reported that George HW Bush, who was the director of the CIA at the time,
completely refused to comply with Carters directives and actually withheld all information
about the UFO phenomenon from the erstwhile president.
Perhaps it was the consistent refusal of his colleagues to acknowledge the importance of
disclosing the information the government holds about UFOs that led to Carter refraining
from discussing the issue later on in his political career.
Despite Carters failure to achieve full disclosure, his successor Ronald Reagan continued
throughout his political career to address the UFO phenomenon, speaking of his belief
in extra-terrestrial civilizations.
