There we go, we've got a solid looking Sony laptop here,
it's the Sony VAIO FW290NAH, another one of those fun model numbers,
but look at this thing, it is absolutely incredible,
it's very, very nice looking and you may notice something interesting
about the screen on this laptop, it's actually a 16.4-inch screen
and it runs at 1600x900, so this is a true 16:9 resolution screen
on this thing, and what I was noticing when I was first unpacking this
and playing with this computer is that, you know, it doesn't feel gigantic,
it just feels like a really nice size screen on this laptop,
with lots of real-estate, lots of room to work, but when you close it up
and you carry it around, it just doesn't feel like a gigantic laptop at all.
I mean it only weighs 6.4 pounds, and it's absolutely loaded with
just about everything, actually, it's really, really nice.
It's got a two-gigahertz dual-core processor- T5870 built into it,
it's got three gigabytes of RAM, 320-gigabyte hard drive,
and like I said, 16.4-inch screen- you don't hear about those very often.
But it looks, like I said, really, really nice. It does have a DVD-RW drive built into it,
so you can burn DVDs on this, it does have Bluetooth,
it does have wireless built in, all the way up to N,
so it's got the B, G, and the N all inside of it,
it does have a 1.3-megapixel web cam, it's got that Sony Motion Eye up here,
and the battery life is actually extraordinarily good on this laptop,
especially for having such a gigantic screen on it,
we're talking up to five-and-a-half hours with the battery that's included with the laptop,
and if you go ahead and spring for one of the extended life batteries,
you could get up to eight hours with this laptop. So it's built for life on the road,
it's built to run on it's battery, and it's going to run for a nice, long time,
and it's just such a nice package, it's really, really sharp looking-
I mean, if you're the type of person that wants to make a statement
with their computer, this is one that you can do it with,
especially because you're going to have that nice big screen,
and it's just really sharp looking. Let's go ahead and show you around it a bit,
down here underneath the screen is where you're going to find--
these are actually your speakers located underneath this grill here,
and over here are all of your quick-access and media control buttons.
This one that's labeled S1 is actually a programmable button
you can use to launch anything you want on the computer. You can program that
when you get it to handle anything. Your volume control is over here,
media controls are right here, and we also have A/V mode.
Now when you push the A/V mode button, on the screen pops this little windowed media bar
here, allowing you to very quickly get to your movies and your photos,
and your internet and all that stuff right from the top of the thing
just by pushing this little button, which is very, very handy,
also, on the side, you're going to find three USB ports,
this is your DVD burner right here, like I said you can burn DVDs on this machine,
which is very handy on a laptop. On the front of the laptop
you're going to find right here your microphone and your headphones,
over on the other side of the front, you're going to find your
MagicGate memory stick card as well as an SD reader right here.
You also have a switch to turn your wireless on and off
located over here as well. And over on the other side
you're going to find, right here is your Firewire port, you have an Express 34 card slot right here,
Firewire, an HDMI output, and it's nice to start seeing so many laptops
and so many devices with HDMI now because it makes it so much easier
and simpler to connect everything. That's built in right here,
you also have VGA, you have your ethernet and modem ports located on the side here
as well, and also integrated very, very nicely into the laptop is where you actually
plug the computer in. So the power port is basically invisible
when you're not using the machine. Nothing really going on in the back here,
nothing really going on in the bottom, it's a clean-looking, very svelte laptop,
especially for considering how full-featured it is, actually.
And it does have a very basic trackpad. It looks textured, but it's not.
That's simply a pattern that you can see on it, you actually can't feel that at all,
and it does have the dual mouse buttons. It also does have a zone right here
for scrolling as well, usually you'll actually see that
shown on the pad, but it does allow you to scroll on the side of the touchpad, right here.
So it is a solid machine, it's light, especially for a laptop of this size,
6.4 pounds is pretty light for a machine like this,
up to five-and-a-half hours of battery life with the built-in battery that comes with it,
so it does have very good battery life, DVD-RW, Bluetooth, wirless, tons of RAM,
nice fast processor, all built in. Also, if you're wondering
about the graphics card, it does use an integrated Intel solution,
it uses the 4500MHD chip, so it's a little better than the previous generation,
but it's still, obviously this is not a major game machine, it will handle all of your videos,
it will handle all of your applications-- all of your 2-D applications,
it will handle all of your, sort of, not super-intense 3-D games, as well,
but it's just not a 3-D powerhouse. That's not what it was born to do.
