My name is Martin Ruge von Löw, I am the managing director of Fotolia Germany.
I am very pleased to be opening the 4th exhibition of the Fotolia LAB today.
Together with Peter Atkins, who is accompanied by the model featured in his work: Funda Vanroy.
It's the second exhibition in which we collaborate with a Fotolia contributor.
Peter came up with the concept and asked us to stage a show,
portraying just one person. Which is Funda.
I am Funda Vanroy and I am featured in this exhibition, I believe eight times.
Usually I can be seen on television in a show called Galileo.
And I am Peter Atkins the photographer who took these photos.
We produce a lot of images for Fotolia
which made us realize that even professional models
have their limits when we ask them to show
more than four or five different facial expressions.
and this, spontanuously made me think of Funda: "You are really good at this!"
I find it very professional of you that it isn't about: "Oh look, how pretty I am!"
"You really get to the point." That's what counts, just like acting.
We produced over 100 photos, the eight most beautiful of which we are showing today.
The images were printed in a monumental fashion, 1 metre x 1 metre behind acrylic glas, in D.SEC finish by Jam Fineartprint
This is truly very good quality with a beautiful degree of abstraction.
I really like the minimalism.
There you can see the concept of the artist very clearly.
I think this worked out very well here, because the focus is exactly on the expression.
This is why we worked with a very wide aperture.
White shirt, white background, the skin virtually comes to the fore.
Of course I was very excited yesterday when I saw the images hanging on the wall for the first time.
Indeed the skin remained un"re"touched and natural.
Well, you could have „removed" the grey hair, really.
It is what it is, we are honest, that it is you.
To see myself is totally normal, but seeing myself that big, is absolutely unusual.
And of course not retouched, is not too bad, I really like it!
