My name is Ryan Parker with Parker Home Renovations in New Braunfels, Texas and today I am going
to teach you how to cut drywall. The first thing you are going to need is you are going
to need a utility knife. You will need a level or a straight edge of some sort. Of course
the drywall. You'll need a tape measure and a pencil. What you are going to do is you
are going to take your tape measure and you are going to want to measure the piece that
you want to cut. In this case I want to cut a three inch strip. So I mark it at three
inches on both sides and then you are going to take your straight edge and you are going
to set it on those marks and draw a line. You can leave your straight edge there or
you can take your straight edge away whichever way you feel most comfortable. You are going
to want to take your utility knife and make sure it has a sharp blade but be careful not
to cut yourself. You are going to take the blade, apply moderate pressure to it and cut
along that line. Maybe make two passes just to insure you have got a good cut. Then what
you want to do is you want to flip your piece of drywall over and you want to break it like
that. Take your utility knife and cut it in the corner and that is how you cut drywall. Now if you
need to knock that edge down to make it not quite so rough you can get a grater or a file
and you could file that edge also to make it a little bit smoother. In this case I've
got a pretty smooth edge along that cut so this will be a good cut. My name is Ryan Parker
