Jonathan Harker is a...
he's a young reporter who works at The Inquisitor
which is the big newspaper in London and uh...
is sort of struggling to kind of make ends meet. And
you meet him at the beginning of the show where he's...
he's set up in this, you know, in this job that
he enjoys but has no real prospects, but he's very very good at
what he does, and uh...
he's sort of the equivalent...we were laughing about it the other day but he's...
sort of the...
Johnny and I were laughing cause he's the... he's kind of the equivalent
of like a Perez Hilton, like he dishes the dirt on everyone,
and uh... he's in this relationship with Mina Murray
who he's, you know, they were childhood sweethearts and they're madly in love, well he's
madly in love with her
and...and so...so struggling to make ends meet because
he has no money, he comes from a different background, he comes quite
a rough background.
He is constantly trying to strive to make Mina happy
or to give Mina what he thinks she wants and so he meets
Grayson, at the beginning of episode one, there's this massive ball
and uh... and Grayson uh...
kind of...kind of treats Harker a bit like a prey,
and ends up bringing him into his circle
and offers him this job as his sort of cultural attache.
With a show like this, or any of this kind of network shows, you get given one script
and you basically have to make your decision based on that one script,
and there was something about
Harker in the first episode
that was quite dark and
I felt like the way it'd been written
there was so much more that was gonna happen to him and I thought he was a...
he was an...he was a very kind of interesting character because
it wasn't on the page, in a way, so there was so much more room to kind of
expand and explore,
and to find out what they wanted to do with him,
and I just liked the fact that he was a man
sort of in, you know, with a massive contrast to Grayson,
that has nothing and has the love of his life
and then ends up sort of selling his soul but then loses the
love this life and I just thought it was quite an interesting kinda dynamic
between Grayson and Harker, and the contrast between the two, I thought,
would be really interesting to play and I'd also always been a
massive fan of Jonathan,so uh... Rhys Meyers
and I'd always wanted to work with him so I was so excited about back that, I guess.
It's been amazing! It's been amazing
working with Johnnie has...has been such an eye opener,
and I always, I always love... I think it's why I do what I do,
because you get to meet such interesting characters
and you get to learn from some people that have been doing it for so much longer
than I could
dream of doing it, and Johnny he's a powerhouse,
I mean he really is, he's worked so much and I think he's...he...
he delivers such beautiful performances every time
and when I found out that they were making Dracula
I can't actually think of anyone better.
I just...he fits right into that role
and what's so incredible about it is that you think, "Oh, he's perfect for that."
And then
you go to set and he completely surprises you by what he does. It's just...
it's just incredible working with him. The high waisted
trousers. I think, you know we all wear our pants much lower nowadays,
so having trousers that are up here
is always...always a shock at lunchtime, for them,
it's great, listen, when you get to go to work every day
and dress up and...and especially with period stuff,
it takes you somewhere entirely different and
it's such a joy to be able to walk into work every single day
and, you know, put on these costumes and going to these sets and work with all these actors
that take you to a completely magical place.
