THEY ARE THE OLDEST LITTLE
LEAGUE FIELDS IN THE COUNTRY
THAT HAVE CONTINOUSLY BEEN USED
FOR BASEBALL, AND
THEY'RE LOCATED RIGHT HERE IN
FULTON COUNTY.
BASEBALL HAS BEEN PLAYED AT THE
PARKHURST FIELD IN
GLOVERSVILLE BY MAJOR LEAGUE AND
HALL OF FAME PLAYERS SINCE
1906. MOST RECENTLY, IT'S BEEN
OCCUPIED BY SOME IMPORTANT
PLAYERS: LITTLE LEAGUERS.
MAKING THESE GLOVERSVILLE BOYS
AND GIRLS SOME OF THE ONLY
PLAYERS IN THE NATION THAT CAN
SAY THEY PLAY ON THE SAME FIELD
DOZENS OF MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS
DID.
AT ONE TIME THE PARK COULD
ACCOMODATE MORE THAN
15-HUNDRED SPECATATORS, AND
LEAGUE PRESIDENT DAVID
KARPINSKI IS HOPING NEW
REVITALIZATION PLANS WILL LIGHT
UP THE PARK ONCE AGAIN.
"THE FIELD IS NOW OVER 100 YEARS
OLD. IT TOOK WRIGLEY FIELD FROM
1914 TO 1988 TO GET THERE LIGHTS
WE'RE LOOKING FOR COROPORATE
SPONSORS AND BASEBALL PURISTS
AND PEOPLE THAT LOVE THIS STORY
TO STEP UP AND HELP US ACHIEVE
OUR GOAL OF LIGHTING THIS
FIELD."
MAYOR GLOVERSVILLE "COOPERSTOWN
ISN'T THAT FAR AWAY SO I THINK
IF PEOPLE MAKE THE TRIP ACROSS
COUNTRY TO COME TO COOPERSTOWN
THEY CAN DRIVE AN EXTRA HOUR AND
END UP IN GLOVERSVILLE AND THE
ADIRONDACKS ARE JUST ANOTHER
HALF HOUR FROM THERE SO I THINK
THIS REALLY COULD BECOME A
DESTINATION."
