Nordin Jahar

Hi. My name is Nordin Jahar. I'm the president of the student union I arrived in the UK in 2004 and I came from Holland. The reason I left Holland was to develop my English, to make it better. I managed to study Business Studies, a four year course. There's two different courses, one is business studies and the other is business administration. I chose to do business studies because they have a placement, so I had to go away for a year. Before the end of my second year, the beginning of my second year I had to go around and find a placement for my third year placement and I've been supported by Caxton House, a lady called Sabrina, with my CV and my interview skills etcetera and I managed to go to a few companies to find some placement. It was kind of hard, it wasn't easy. I think I sent about twenty companies my CV, and also I had two interviews from those twenty companies, but then in the end I didin't give up and there was one person who helped me with that and I managed to get a placement at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane. So it's a really five star hotel and I was very happy and I had a good experience over there. Being there working for a whole year they managed to show me different departments, how it really works in a work environment point of view, next to just studying and finding out everything just through my books. Theories, but it was totally different in a work place. When you're really actually working there, people just do the work, not really following the book in that sense because evereybody is working differently. So I had the lady from Caxton House come to me once, er, twice in the year, just to see how I'm doing. I don't regret going on placement, it really helped me a lot, really made me a more experienced person, let me say it like that, and that's the whole point of the placement, to learn more about the practical side point of view. And then i came to do my final year and because I had a lot of experience and I love to volunteer myself as a sports member, society member etcetera, and I was also a course board member, I started getting to know a lot of people and I made a lot of connections, i run for election to be the president and I managed to win my first year, as the president and this is my second year so I won the second year election again and here am I
