So let me read the first stanza.
There is a silence that betrays the Christ
Because the Word of God remains unheard
By those in bitter need. Unspoken still
The Word salvation holds for them, and kept
Away their resurrection from a world
That is but hell and alien to God's Son.
Homeless they wander, nowhere finding peace,
Unknown, unknowing, blind in darkness, and
Unborn within the silence of the tomb
This is when we recognize that what we have to do is not be silent
This is when we recognize that what we have to do is not be silent
to the Word of God, but be silent to the ego that
we've chosen to be the substitute for the Word of God.
There is a silence into which God's Word
Has poured an ancient meaning, and is still.
Nothing remains unsaid nor unreceived.
Strange dreams are washed in golden water from
The blazing silence of the peace of God,
And what was evil suddenly becomes
The gift of Christ to those who call on Him.
His final gift is nothing but a dream,
Yet in that single dream is dreaming done.
So that the peace of God is this "blazing silence." It says nothing.
It simply is. You all know the line in the workbook, "You say God is
and then you cease to speak." Theologians say God is, and then they write volumes.
Or people write a book called the Bible.
They're always writing about God, they're always speaking. It's a lot of noise.
You say God is and you cease to speak because in that silence, that's God.
It's total silence to the ego. Total silence to all the things of the world.
That's what we're so afraid of. That's why it's so difficult for us
as a society, let alone as individuals, to simply be quiet and to be still.
Because the ego tells us in that stillness God will come
and you won't like what he says to you.
Because the ego has us convinced that we are these sinful betrayers
and therefore we deserve to be punished for our treachery.
The Holy Spirit says when you're quiet and you're still
and you silence all the sounds of the world,
then you will hear the Word of God tell you, nothing happened.
There was no sin, there was no treachery, there was no betrayal.
Nothing happened. It was just a bad dream and that's what this is saying.
"His final gift is nothing but a dream." That's what forgiveness is.
"Yet in that single dream is dreaming done." The Atonement is the final dream.
It says what you thought happened never happened.
Now those words will never be spoken in Heaven because there are no words in Heaven.
So those words are only found within the dream to be the ending of the dream.
And then the third stanza is a specific reference again to Christmas,
and then there's an Easter reference as well.
What seems to be a birth is but a step
From timelessness to time.
(That's the ego's birth, from the world of eternity which is our true home into the world
of separation which when it's projected out into form becomes the world of time.)
The peace of God Shines down upon a manger and a cross
In equal silence. Neither one will last.
The dream of a beginning and an end
Can never touch God's Son. He seemed to take
A human form and then he seemed to die.
There is no death because there is no birth.
The crucified is risen up to God.
In other words, nothing happened. There was no birth, there was no death,
there was no crucifixion. This is all part of the dream.
So the crucified is risen up to God when you awaken from the dream of crucifixion.
And here as you find in many other places in all the material,
the crucifixion is used both as a reference to the seemingly
historical crucifixion and death of Jesus, to the whole idea that the crucifixion
is a symbol for the ego thought system, which is that we all
believe we betrayed the Son of God and crucified him.
And so the great Western myth of the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus
is a reenactment of that, that we all feel guilty of the betrayal
and then somehow magically everything will be undone.
That's why it all takes place within the body because the body is the realm of magic.
In truth the crucified is risen up to God when we awaken from the dream;
our eyes open and we realize absolutely nothing happened.
We just thought we crucified God's Son.
We just thought we betrayed the Love of God. In truth nothing happened.
That's the silence. That's the blazing silence of the peace of God.
It looks on birth and it looks on death. It looks on the manger;
it looks on the cross the same way. The peace of God shines down
upon a manger and a cross in equal silence. Neither one will last.
And the word of God says, "The dream of a beginning and an end
Can never touch God's Son."
It had nothing to do with us. What does birth have to do with us?
What does death have to do with us? That's the silence.
What the world does is say a lot of words, a lot of words
about the meaning of birth, the meaning of death, the meaning of life,
of preexisting life, an afterlife, multiple lives, on and on and on.
The life of the universe, the life of the cosmos, the life of galaxies,
the life of a star, the life of a human being, etc., etc. And it's all nothing.
The peace of God shines down in blazing silence on all of this.
Nothing has to be said. Nothing has to be explained. Nothing has to be done.
That's where the whole meaning of defenselessness lies.
There is nothing that you have to do. All you have to do is think differently.
All you have to do is make that one shift from the ego's thought system,
which is born out of the belief that we have betrayed the silence,
and shift from that to the Holy Spirit's thought system that says,
in the true silence is found the peace of God.
But once you strive to do anything in this world and make it better;
once you strive to make a relationship better; once you strive to make
your body better; once you strive to make other bodies better;
once you strive to bring peace among the bodies in the world, then you're going to fail.
The peace of God just shines in silence.
Again, this doesn't mean that your body doesn't do anything in the world.
It simply means that whatever it is your body does,
and your body may do a lot of things, its content should be silence.
That doesn't mean that you don't speak words.
It simply means that your words should be silent.
Your behavior should be silent, it should be quiet.
Nothing that you say or do should be motivated by a desire to say or do.
You simply say or do whatever love does through you.
And again, it may be quite, quite active as the world judges it,
but it's not you who is doing it. That's the silence.
