The tale of day and night
Once upon a time, Moon, Sun and Rooster were living together in the sky.
Moon wore a white shirt and Rooster wore a red hat.
Moon liked Rooster’s red hat very much. One day, Moon told Rooster:
- Let’s trade our shirt and hat!
Rooster replied: - I don’t like your white shirt. I won’t trade my hat for it!
Moon tried to persuade Rooster but Rooster didn’t agree.
Then Moon took away Rooster’ hat and threw it down the land.
Rooster quickly flew down to take it. But the land was so dark that Rooster couldn’t find his hat.
Rooster suddenly thought of Sun, Rooster raised his head to the sky and called:
- ***-a-doodle doo, oh Sun! oh Sun!
Sun opened the cloud and looked down. Bright sunshine was everywhere.
Thanked to the sunshine, Rooster saw his hat on a tree branch.
Rooster happily flew upon the tree to take his hat and put it on his head.
Rooster wanted to fly back to the sky but he was so tired that he couldn’t take off.
Rooster raised his voice again: - Oh Sun! Can you take me up there!
But Sun couldn’t take Rooster up. Sun advised:
- Rooster! Maybe you should stay there. In the morning just call “***-a-doodle doo….! Oh Sun!”, I’ll wake up and talk to you then!
Ever since then, Rooster always woke up early and crowed “***-a-doodle doo” to wake Sun.
Up high, Sun shone bright sunshine to Earth and created day.
But Moon felt ashamed for what Moon had done to Rooster.
Therefore Moon only showed up when Sun had gone down behind the mountain and Rooster had gone to bed.
People called the time when Moon only shined weakly was night.
