My son is in college in Arizona. I got a call at eleven o’clock saying, Mom there’s
an $80 charge on my credit card. He didn’t see the fine print on the website that said,
if you don’t return it in fourteen days, your credit card will be charged seventy-five
dollars or something like that. And they got his credit card number because he had to pay
for shipping and handling of five dollars. Then I filed a complaint with a consumer protection
agency of the state and uh – I was really upset about it. And so she put an interim
group together um with a trade representative to try to work out some of their issues. I
thought she did a great job working with groups of people to craft a bill that would end this
kind of practice. She presented the bill and it passed the Senate unanimously and passed
the House of Representatives and was signed into law. And what it does is makes it a lot
easier for consumers, because what it mandates is that you know you can’t do size six-point
print if the rest of the ad in is twenty-four. You gotta do the disclosure in twenty-four.
It’s a great idea. She’s a great consumer advocate and what I really liked is she was
able to work with all the groups and deal with their issues before the session started.
And uh we got the money back.
